Data Sync Issues

I too am a new 650 user. Just returning to Palms after 2 years on an IPAQ. Initially I synced the 650 up to Outlook because the IPAQ's use it, however after running into constant problems with duplicate records being created ( I sync at home as well to have a ready backup available ) I remembered how much I liked the PALM OS in the 90's and switched back.

I had a few problems with invalid date error messages after a looooong sync, but finally resolved them by manually deleting three odd appointments which had been 'moved' to 1-1-70. However I now find when I first sync up my 650 with either computer the 'initial' sync for the day takes 10 minues, almost all of that time on the Calendar. After that first sync the rest of the syncs take perhaps 20 seconds. Then when I get to the other PC the same thing occurs.

I've tried to repair corruption in the Palm Desktop however that hasn't helped. Is this type of behavior standard for those to sync a 650 to 2 different PC's?

Hi, bluewhale. I, too, am a fairly new Palm user, got a 650 the beginning of this month. I used to use PPC's, as well. I'm not quite in the same boat, but I'll take a shot at your issue based on my experience. From what you've written, I'm guessing that you have your settings allowing for "maximum" synch with your Outlook. In other words, you don't have it set to only synch the last 7 days, for example. If you're synching your entire calendar and entire inbox each time, depending on the size of your .pst, or how much you're pulling directly from your server, that could be a HUGE amount of data each time. You probably don't need that. Once you get all that data synched, you can change the settings to only synch inbox and calendar for smaller increments of time (i.e. only synch the last 7 days of email, new appts, and so on). That should make your synch's significantly faster. And I don't think the bulk of the time's actually spent on your calendar, it just seems that way. I have a password on my .pst for my pop email and when I synch, it doesn't ask for the password until it seems to have moved past my email and gets to my calendar. I'm pretty sure, though, that my inbox isn't really synched until I enter my password. So, for whatever reason, calendar just seems to be the hold-up. Hope this was helpful.
