Default Done with Blackberry

This is my first post to the forum and there is a ton of information located here. I am looking to purchase the Treo 650.

I was wondering if anyone has a thought on the best carrier. I am currently using T-Mobile with a Blackberry 7100t and the phone is awful. I hear the words, you sound garbled during every call. I am not sure that it is T-mobile's fault as much as the device itself. I am not averse to changing carriers, but have no idea where to start.

I have looked over a few of the websites. Cingular and Sprint look good, but Verizon recently had a great write-up in Consumer Reports.

My problem with Verizon is the expense. It seems like everything is a la carte. Looks to be about $90 a month and I am currently paying just over $60 for everything...

I appreciate any help as to where to start...

Brett

When I made the change from my Treo 600 to 650 I changed fromTMobile to Cingular. It was the best decision ever. The difference is so clear, and the data is much faster.

Default Verizon's fine for me...

Keep in mind that my whole family is already on Verizon, though, so I had no options.

I'm very happy with my service and it is everywhere. Before this, I had a Sprint Pocket PC Phone and it would cut out while I was driving right by there World Headquarters here in Kansas City. No kidding.

My Verizon Treo 650 has been great for me. It's simply the finest convergence device I've ever had. I've had 4 now including this one. 3 palm and one PocketPC (or Win Mobile).

I am interested in the Treo 700, but I'll probably wait for the Palm version due out later this year. The big attraction for me is the EV-DO network usage. Talk about speedy data on a phone.

Default Suggested Verizon Plan

Thanks to both of you.

I reviewed Verizon's website and I honestly can not make heads or tails of their plans. I use my current Blackberry for email and Phone. I do not exceed 400 minutes a month and probably receive somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 or so emails a day. My text messaging and websurfing is minimal. Any suggestions?

Default Well...

I can tell you right now that you're going to need the unlimited data plan. Pulling down that many e-mails a day, you're bound to have some attachments.

Other than that, I can tell you that they are two services (phone and data) and it isn't cheap, but definitely better than Sprint was to me. Plus I can continue my calls now while I drive by Sprint's Headquarters.

Default Last Question

Once again thanks for your reply, that does help.

One last question. Has anyone had experience with Earthlink. That looks to be a good option and the cellular is available in my area? Any thoughts on the service?

Thanks,

Brett

The best carrier for you will depend on where you are and where you go. I had Verizon and loved the service but my house and a few other places I frequented were black holes for Verizon, so I switched to AT&T/Cingular and life was good again. However, a friend also has Cingular and his house is a black hole, sounds like he's on Mars.

For data I think Sprint offers the best deal, at $15/mo. Cingular (if you get their MEdia Net Unlimited plan) is tied with T-Mobile (package) at $20/mo.

If you use Sprint's employee referral offer you can get a nice phone plan and unlimited net for free! You may have to get the Treo from them to get that, maybe not.

http://www.sprint.com/sero

Use joe@sprint.com as an employee email address, enter your zipcode to get you into the deal section. I just checked and the Treo isn't showing anymore for my zipcode. Perhaps yours?

I'm not recommending Sprint to you, or any other carrier. Just suggesting that maybe asking around to see what works best for you in your areas is a good way to go. Here, a few places I have a hard time with T-Mobile is rock solid.

As for Earthlink, they use Sprint and Verizon networks from what I read.

Good luck!
