eBay Sandisk SD card counterfeits - Treo Forums

I just got a 1GB Sandisk SD card off of eBay.
I found out many are counterfeits and sure enough I confirmed that my SD card was fake by calling sandisk technical support.

To add insult to injury, the card doesn't even work. When I put it into the Treo 650, as soon as I try to access the card, it disappears. It works on my card reader attached to PC but doesn't work in the Treo.

I formated the memory card and it still doesn't work. The seller became "no longer registered" with ebay this morning. Sandisk says that there are thousands of these counterfeit SD cards circulating since Xmas time.

Has anyone else had problems with a new Sandisk SD card?

Did paypal credit you for the card? Or did you use paypal? Just wondering.

There has been alot of fakes out there recently mostly in reguards to the Flash Pen drives.I got a fake four gig flash drive but I was fortunate that the seller refunded my PP payment.

As far as the SD cards. I just bought 2 , 1 gig sandisks cards at office depot for $39.95 each. Not a rebate an in store sale ! Thought that was a pretty good deal.

I got the same message from ebay less than a week ago. Bought the SD card during the Christmas season... Bought the card using PayPal, and am awaiting a response from them re: any recourse available. :mad:

I called up Sandisk and they confirmed it was counterfeit.
Many of the SD cards sold on eBay are fake and many people don't know it. Most of the sellers don't even know it.
The only way to be safe is to contact the seller before you bid on it, and ask for serial number on back of card. Then call Sandisk Tech support and they will tell you on the spot if card is real or not.
In my case, I filled with Paypal. I got a refund after sending SD card back to seller.
But I wasted a month and shipping fees back to seller.

I've seen pretty low prices at Costco and other stores. Pretty much the same as eBay. Stick to the stores for the SD cards.
