Error message 4058
I'm new to this site, so please forgive me if i ask a stupid question. I keep getting "Error message 4058. Please check telephone number or email address and try again" message when i attempt to either send or reply to a text message. The email seems to be fine, and i kow the phone number is correct. Suggestions?

Might sound dumb, but check and see if the area code is right on the number maybe?

Are you on Cingular? I've looked into this problem, and it seems that this error is often associated with the following:
1. A corrupted contact (try a different contact)
2. SMS messages exceeding 160 characters (does it work with short messages?)
3. Failure to include a leading "1" before the area code (add the "1")
4. Failure to label the contact's # as a Mobile or E-mail # (change the # type)
3. an older lock code from Cingular (call Cingular tech support and ask to be sent a new lock code)
4. older SIM cards (try a new SIM card)
Good luck.

Doesn't happen all the time. I've seen people say it might be a network issue. My second guess was the SIM card, but you've replaced that.

Thanks Chris and the group...I called cingular (611) and they fixed this issue in about :30 seconds. The problem is on their end. At least I know I can come here and get options....

No problem. Glad you got it fixed. I had googled the error and this thread was one of the results. Thanks for sharing the fix. The next person will have a resolution to their problem.
