Default FM Modulator

I've seen several posts about audio (mp3's, etc) over bluetooth headsets. Since it's not supported, I wanted to offer another solution. You can pick up an FM modulator and broadcast the audio over your car speakers. They are cheap and you can find them almost anywhere.

The only problem I have with using a FM modulator is that someone else can pickup on what you're broadcasting. It's a decent and cheap solution if that isn't a concern though.

I agree. I don't think most modulators have a very big transmission range but I definately wouldn't use one for phone calls. Probably ideal for MP3's and GPS directions though.

It depends on your locations. In some of the bigger metro areas, it can be tough to find a usable channel for your FM transmitter, especially on the cheaper ones that only let you pick from a few presets. Personally, I'd rather make the trip to Radio Shack and get the adapters to plug into my car stereo.
But yeah, FM can be useful, especially in a rental where you can't tear up the dash...

I am with Jeff.

I live in Houston. After experimenting with several FM modulators, I finally gave up. Now I am using the stock wired headset for my treo while driving. Well, I only listen to Audio book though.

I have used FM modulator with success; to listen to audio books while on the road;
but you can not take/receive calls while it is pluged in. If you do; the caller will hear very strong echo... so if a call comes in; you have to unplug the modulator from treo.... sort of a pain..

Just an input..

what i did was:
- Get Bluetooth Stereo Headset (iTECH Blueband)
- Get Bluetooth Reciever via jack connector (iTECH BlueCON35II)
- Get jack converter

Plug the iTECH BlueCON35II onto Treo 650 jack connector (using converter).
iTECH BlueCON35II will automatically detect iTECH Blueband Stereo Headset
play your MP3 with your Treo 650 wirelessly

special advantage:
- with the same concept, you can use on your MP3 player, PSP, Notebook without bluetooth, CD Player....

- the iTECH Blueband has 2 profile.. AV (for stereo listening) and Headset (for phone usage)

- the iTECH Blueband has build in mic so you can use it talking on the phone with your Treo 650

i love these solution!!!! VERY MUCH!!!!

By the way,

if you want to use the iTECH Blueband as headset with Treo 650, you can easily pair it with built in Bluetooth of Treo 650 so you wouldn't need the Bluetooth Dongle (iTECH BlueCON35II)...

the Bluetooth Dongle is only for stereo listening only..

Where is the mic on that headset? And how is the outgoing sound quality?

the sound quality to listen to music is perfect.
the sound quality of using it for talking (handset) is okay..

as for the mic output quality, it's not easy to say because some people i called with can talk with me all the way... and some, they just keep repeating hello several time so i need to give up the headset and pick up my phone.. the ratio is 50 - 50 so it's not easy to judge...

in the picture, you'll see a big hole (for charging on the internal battery) and beneath it is a small hole which is the internal mic
