Question get a 650 now or wait for the 700 at Sprint??

Just wanted to get some opinions here. I am a Sprint customer. Fry's has the 650 for $99 which I could get by activating a new line of service on my plan. Pretty darn good deal. However, one thing I really want with this type of device (besides a good phone and email) is a good web connection. I don't really care that much between Palm OS and WM5. One thing I do know, web access on my LG PM325 phone is slooooow - like 28K modem slow. Is the 650 connection slow - or would it be faster that a low end phone? Should I wait for the 700"x" and EV-DO even though I will have to pay more (I currently have unlimited web access for free at Sprint).

I love the device and have decided that a Treo is for me vs. the PPC-6700 Sprint also offers. I am just not sure if I am going to be happy with CMDA 1x connection.

You should even be able to demo a live one in the store.

If web speed is really important to you, I would wait on the 700 because it "should" have EVDO support, which is much faster than current web access. However, there will be an additional charge for EVDO access...the $10/$20 Sprint data access fee does not cover EVDO. I think they are calling their EVDO plans "Power Vision" or something close to that.

Hi All,

Im a newbie and hopefully a future treo 700 owner. First of all, how long has the treo700 been out for verizon? second, when will it go to Sprint? I just started my first real job and am looking for a treo. Will Treo ever goto nextel where you can use the walkie talkie feature?

Thanks in advance

I dunno, my net connection is sufficiently fast for me. It's faster than dial-up at least. Also, your speed will depend partially upon what browser you use. Xiino is the fastest. Twice as fast as what you'll get out of the box. Still, at this point, I'd recommend waiting.

Verizon rolled out the 700w on Jan. 16. The 700p is supposed to be at Sprint next month (according to an insider over at sprintusers.com) and then the 700w is supposed to be there in mid-June. No on the walkie-talkie as that is a phone feature and I don't really see Palm adding that, IMO.

I have read mixed reviews on the EVDO vs 1x - some see a big difference, others do not. Probably is pretty dependent on location. I am pretty much going for the 650 - based on price and stability at this time. The 700w is still a work in progress and I am sure the 700p will not be perfect. I think I will wait and see how those develop over the rest of the year and then upgrade next year.

Found out that it has nothing to do with the plan - the difference between Vision and PV is nothing but Picture Mail - has nothing to do with EVDO, they are just trying to make everyone buy that package. This has been verified by folks at 6700users.com.

Gee, I just read on another site that the 700p is now supposed to be at Sprint next month. Hummmm, thinking about waiting now! Fry's do not have any 650's yet anyway and I bet the good deal on them is the 180 wait period before you get the rebate. That's a long time to wait for a rebate.
