    Default Gmail blues

apologies for cross posting but having posted in the other forum i haven't had ANY responses. any thoughts/tips please?

    1. have POP set up in gmail preferences but how do i get treo to only download unread messages?

    2. the settings i have on the treo (versamail) seem to work reasonably to do an autodownload of subject only emails (apart from annoyance above!!) but when i come to download the remaining part of the message it takes 4 or 5 attempts with timeout failures. any thoughts?

    3. is there a method of batch downloading the few messages i do want the whole email for rather than individually.

IF the answer to all of this is another email client which FREEWARE/OPENSOURCE is recommended. i say this because i don't have a large data package (in UK) and i don't need email that much that i have to pay even more.

    thanks guys.

Downloading directly from gMail via POP is always interesting. I have done it via ChatterEmail and the gMail app and now what I do is set gMail to forward the mail to an IMAP account and still keep it on the server - keeping it on the server means that next time I do a POP transaction there, the emails will then appear on the device or desktop - and once downloaded on the device, then they will not redown load ...it is convoluted to say the least and just does not sound right.

Anyway, the forwarding gets you away from the problems you have described. Ben

Forwarding it really gets you away from the hassles of GMail. At this time I am unable to POP GMail - a great system sometimes.
