I just can't stop myself from responding to this. I really have a hard time understanding the convoluted logic that because it is not illegal, it must be okay and therefore we, the affected group must not say anything.
Horsefeathers!
Because you say you got something useful once everyone should now be receptive to receiving this kind of crap? We are angry the cellular companies have found (or designed it that way) it is legal to distribute cellular numbers. Not just distribute, but sell and make money at it. That isn't illegal, but it sure feels wrong since I have no say. They will point to the contract and say it's in there. Good for them. They also know that there aren't a lot of options if you want cellular service, but we don't have to like it. You know what? There will be a backlash in the coming years. It probably won't be in my lifetime, but it will happen. Although slow and in baby steps that is how the "Do Not Call Lists" have come about.
Now you come along and try to rationalize what you are doing. If I understand your request, you aren't even paying to buy lists. You just send to every single number in a block and because a company makes software that accomplishes it, that absolves you from any responsibility?
You say "What good will it do to stop it at my level. You should try and convince people to stop creating such software." That is exactly what we are trying to do when we point out to you that in our opinion it is wrong.
Well, if people like you didn't buy the software, they wouldn't make it. That is how you stop the software from being made. Not by using it and saying well they make the software....
Guns don't kill people, people do.....
You present yourself as taking the high road and you don't want to get into a never-ending debate. You thought people here were just friendly and helpful? Yes they are and in the couple of years I have been hanging around there is very little that gets this group agitated. You managed to find a new one and I dare say people will remember.
I would be willing to bet that when you send these messages out you are not including your personal cell phone so others can share what they believe would be of extreme interest to you because it was helpful (profitable) to them.
Since I am no longer an official Treo owner I hope my posting is not out of place, but this issue crosses way over a device type. By the way, I believe I was one of those friendly and helpful people who tried to answer questions you had back awhile ago.
I will now return to the BB Boards.....

Wow! seem to have started something here.
it's quiet and i'm intrigued so, okay. so, fill us in? explain what exactly it is you are hoping to do and i won't jump to any conclusions or give any sermons.
i'm sure the community will be interested to know what exactly this is all about and then perhaps you, can let us decide what we would like rather than the other way around?

I called at&t about a spam sms my wife and I both received directing us to a pornographic site. Things this Christain boy just doesn't appreciate. at&t customer services told me that they would track the number I gave them from where the message originated, but there is nothing they can really do. They are not stored in a database and they told me they do not have the ability to stop them. I sent the text to them with the site to them and guess what happened...?
Yep - just as they said - Nothing. Never got it again though.

Steve, I completely appreciate your statements there. Our society is becoming a "feel good" society instead of a society of responsibility. If it feels good, if it is not illegal...Also as a Christian, I really have a proble with what Target is talking about.

Never have thought about getting mass texts or calls since I have never gotten them or not very many.
I can relate to email spamming since I have changed an address twice now since I get so much spamcr-p that I cannot read the emails that I need without going through hundreds.
Guess I will side with the no spam group...

Just trying to learn and talk at the same time here.
