CDMA is on its way out? How's that? I agree that GSM is much easier when travelling but CDMA is Verizon and Sprint here in L.A. and they aren't going GSM anytime soon.

I think that globally, CDMA isn't going to expand as a lot of countries operate on GSM networks. With Nokia dropping out of CDMA, there is only a limited number of manufacturers for the phones.
CDMA will likely "stick around" mainly in North America, namely because they are able to keep their customers from jumping to another carrier since most CDMA carriers won't accept competitor's phones to be used on their networks.
Just as with the Beta and VHS, it's not which is better, but which is more widely accepted.

And the Mac/PC debate, and the Chey/Ford Debate!
On another note, I did find the poster's statement about CDMA being on its way out, to be one that I totally disagreed with. I compared it with another thread here in which a guy posted that Sprint was by far the best carrier out there, and if you weren't with Sprint, you were basically an idiot . . .
To further elaborate on my statement about Nokia pulling out CDMA market: This doesn't mean that they will never enter back into the market. But they could be making a statement. Get some other heavyweight to make a similar announcement, and I am betting those licensing fees that were so high will suddenly not be so high . . . . .

overseas use
Hi: I have CDMA with 650, thinking of getting a 680. Can you got to europe, plop a "local" sim card in and get calling AND data no problem with GSM?
I don't travel a lot overseas but may spend 3 weeks over in europe....
