Hard reset of 650....looking for help figuring out cause...
My phone did a random restart today, and I'm trying to figure out what might have caused it.
I got a call that I had to "ignore" becaue I was meeting with someone else, so I hit the ignore button and put the phone down. I heard the alert that I had a new voice mail, and then when I picked up the phone a couple of minutes later it had reset with all of my preferences gone.
I had just recently installed a backup program (On Guard), but hadn't configured it yet, so that didn't help much.
Recent apps installed:
Butler
HandyShopper
DateBk5
PowerRun
Any ideas?

I've had the same issue except with SMS/text messaging. I've read on other posts that this appears to be a common issue.
I called Verizon yesterday, and they blame it on 3rd-party apps. So, I guess you can't install any 3rd-party apps onto your Treo unless you want this to happen.

Yeah, that was the same thing that Sprint told me when I called.
I'm going to have to get a better Back-Up application, because I'm not sure OnGuard is really what I'm looking for. It came along in a package with UnInstall Manager.

By "hard reset" are you saying that all your applications programs are wiped out so you are left back to the default Treo factory conditions? Or, are you just saying that your preferences like backlight level, registration info for programs, settings for programs are gone?
If it's the preferences settings are gone, yes, it's unfortunate that it happens but it's not a "hard reset" since it's not back to factory conditions meaning that the programs are still there on the Palm. I have experienced my share of it originally when I got my Treo while I was on vacation.
Best thing to get for this is Pref Doctor which will save and back up your preferences file so that the resets won't wipe out those preferences.
The other alternative is to get a good backup program and back up frequently and then you can easily restore them back when a reset happens that wipes out the preferences.

Sounds like he is getting the same as me, which is a hard reset - yes all the apps get wiped, the device goes back to vanilla.
I tried doing a #*377 but that only listed a System Error from 2 days previously, nothing from the time of the last hard reset. grrr
