was thinking if you could just mod a little plug on the side of the unit then just plug in the gamepad and play

So you're saying you want to disassemble your Treo so you can use your Super Nintendo game pad to control its screen?

To actually control the pad & buttons, you'd need to disassemble the Treo and the gamepad plug, and start soldering leads.

To control the functions of the pad & buttons, you'd need at least a gamepad-to-Treo adapter with a Treo driver and you'd need at most that plus a SNES emulator for Treo.

Either way, nothing currently exists for you. But good luck with option A.

Tangentially, you're welcome to read this article about emulating NES (not SNES) on a Treo.
