Default Have the Problems Been Worked Out

I just recently puchased the highly touted PPC 6700 with Sprint. Thought the PPC phone was great until I went in the store and handled the Treo 650. Talk about one hand useability. Also the PPC 6700 and other PPC phones have great PDA functuality at the sacrifice of Phone functualit. As a phone, they stink.

So, I now want to purchase the Treo 650 (it will be with Sprint).

My question is have they worked out all of the serious glitches and unstability issues that were plaging the 650 earlier. I chose not to purchase the phone several months ago because of everyone crying about the constant resets and bugs. Have firmwware fixed this problem. Someone told me that much of the problem was caused by the use of an improper chip, i don't know. But I want to purchase the phone I just need to know that the phone has been made more stable thru upgrades and firmware, etc

Yes, for the most part the 650 is quite stable. There is some long standing issues with VersaMail for some people, but other than that it is quite stable.

The issue you refer to of changing the SIM card was related to GSM (Cingular, nonbranded) models only. Sprint models do not use a SIM card and do not have this problem.

You might have a random issue with any program at any time; but that is more or less the nature of downloading and installing quite often. Programs such as the NeatFreak Pack help you in that respect as they keep junk from mucking up your device and provide a means to keep stability.

So yea, go get one and enjoy it. Its a solid device and you might become a ET convert :D

Antoine:

Thanks for the prompt reply:

I really want the phone bad and will be willing to get rid of the 2 week old PPC 6700 that everyone raves about.

Are you absolutely certain that all of the problems with having to reset the phone has been straightened out. If so, I am going to get the phone.

One last thing. the phone does not have wifi. But Sprint has EVDO. Will I still be able to surf the web fast with the EVDO, even though the 650 does not have wifi. How does that work.

But please do not forget to addres my initial concerns about constant resets and stability

Off the top of my head, I cannot say that the 650 is EVDO; I know that the next Treo will be, but not quite sure of that point.

A device's stability is one part use, another part design. With the exception of the included VersaMail email program, the 650 has been a very stable device for many users. If you are the type to download an try different types of software, that will compromise your device's ability to be stable.

I personally think that if you go with the 650, you will have a slight learning curve but be fine. Its a very well done device considering its abilities.

Its a good phone except mines reset about 2 or 3 times a day, I believe the culprit program to be verichat, i keep it on my phone because 1. I already paid for it. 2. its the most useful program on my phone (I tend to IM a lot). the one thing I miss about WindowsMobile OS, is the better multitasking interface.

If I was in your shoes right now, I would take that 6700 back for a refund and wait for the Treo 700p which is due to release early next year. hopefully that model will fix the problems with the 650

Verichat does have issues with the 650; though there are other IM clients out there that could/would do the job and probably be more stable. Check out LuLuGirl's article via the front page, or in the Utilites section for more info there.
