| Have VersaMail only download subjects? Hey everyone,
Hopefully someone can help, I'm totally new to the Treo world and just bought a 650 off eBay. In Canada data is expensive, but I'd like access once in awhile to my email to be able to send/receive. I have a couple of questions though:
1) What is the best free email provider to use with it? I really would prefer IMAP and not POP, since I want to be able to use the mail on both devices, such as sign into a web based interface on my PC but then also have that same mail on the Treo.
2) Is there a way in VersaMail to have it only download email subjects, which are obviously small, and then if I choose open message, have it then download the actual message? Just because I don't want to always read EVERY single email on my Treo, just the odd one from a friend or what not that's trying to get ahold of me when I'm not home. Saves on the data. Thanks! |

| IMAP - there really are some good providers out there. I use everyone.net and fastmail.net, both with a subscription level. I was and am currently very happy with Fastmail.net, though a few months ago they experienced a multiple day outage that was really painful and rather unnecessary (lack of good backup/redundancy). While fastmail.net was still have their problems, I then went and obtained a subscription service level from everyone.net and that is now my main email address and only because I do not want to to go through the hassle of telling everyone to use the other one again.
#2 - ChatterEmail has a setting for downloading email headers - and in all respects is a better email application than VersaSmell.

| Hi:
Benjie, you have to get off the fence and let us know what you really think about Versamail!!!
Versamail may actually work for some and if you want to try, I believe you will find a similar setting to d/l the subject line only. While in the app, Menu/Options/Preferences/Delivery Options/Get...and select "Subject Only".
Hope this helps,

| But once you download an email with a subjest line only, how do you go back and get the whole email that you want without downloading all of them??

| Hi Plunker:
After you open the message and only see the subject line, an option appears at the bottom right, an envelope with an arrow. When you tap it, you are told the size of the message and offered the option to download the rest.

| My experience with VersaSmell is due to my wife's insisting on using it when I gave her my 650 - she used it for a short period before going with ChatterEmail. I set it up for her and it operated fine for about a week then the fun started.
It is great that we have another person here who actually reads the post!

| I agree with Ben. Versamail is great until you run into the recurring mail db corruptions and other issues. I went with Snapper as opposed to Chatter, simply because I liked the interface better, but if they don't start making some major updates soon, I can see myself registering Chatter.

| Jeff, I am a registered user of both SnapperEmail and ChatterEmail. ChatterEmail is constantly being refined; SnapperEmail is not. I quit using SnapperEmail about 2 years ago when I gave up on their ever doing anything with it.

Ben | I don't want to hijack the OP's thread, but that's kind of the way I'm leaning. Let me know if you want to discuss this further, and I'll split it off into its own thread.
