System Tools or Repair Headphone/Headset jack keeps breaking.

The Treo 650 headphone/headset jack is absolutely awful. It failed on my first Treo; I'm on my second Treo and it's failing again.

As you rotate the plug in the jack, it makes clicking/popping sounds (in the headphones) and works at some specific points in the rotation, and doesn't work in others. Hence, moving in any way and listening to music is impossible (because moving slightly jostles the plug). (When I got the Treo three months ago, it was fine, and it's slowly been failing.)

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have suggestions on minimizing the damage / extending the life of the jack? (I have a right-angle headphone adapter now - maybe a different adapter would be better?) Is this fixed in the Treo 700w?

Thanks!

There is a different adaptor available from Seidio that plugs into the sync port instead of the audio jack. That may or may not be a good solution for you depending on whether you need access to that port while listening to audio.

Connector Type Audio Adapter

I don't want to take a chance breaking the headphone jack (scary reports posted here) so I could use this attachment to plug a fm modulator in to play audio books on my car stereo. I am assuming that a car charger can plug in next to the cradle connection.?????

Default Other alternatives, question.

Funny, that a product exists entirely because of Palm's crappy engineering. <g> Thanks! Any word on whether long-term use of this adapter will screw up the data connector too? Then my Treo would become nothing more than a phone.

While I'm writing, I also discovered you can now get a pair of wireless headphones! You need this software ($20): http://www.softick.com/bluetooth-audio/ and a pair of supported headphones ($100-250).

Is there any chatter out there on whether this solution also works, and what headphones are good?

Thanks again!

You won't be able to charge when using this adapter.

The data connector is much stronger. I haven't heard of it failing in any forums.

There have been some discussions here and at Treocentral about this software and compatible bluetooth stereo headphones. Shouldn't be difficult to find with a search.
