Question Headset Jack to Car Deck

:laugh3:New to the forums and I had a quick question.

I bought a Treo 650 to get flashed onto my Cricket account and I'm curious about the headset jack's functionality. The deck in my car has an auxiliary jack on the front of it (3.5mm) for ease of MP3 player usage. What I’m wondering, and hoping to get some insight on, is connecting the Treo’s headset jack (2.5mm) to my deck to use the Treo as an MP3 player in my car.

Has anyone done this with good results? I’ve read a couple of things about people only getting sound out of the right speakers on home stereos. Any advice, links or testimonials would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi and welcome to ET:

FWIW....The headphone jack of the 650 is a very weak point of the device. Use of it may spell certain failure of the jack in a short time causing the phone to "think" a headset is always plugged in.

I suggest you search these boards and the web for posts about the headphone jack failures before you jump in. You need to know about this weakness so you can make an informed decision.

I did have to replace my first 650 for that reason and after replacement I went with a Bluetooth unit to avoid future problems.

Not trying to sway you, just alert you.....

    Wow! Such quick response!!

Thanks for all of the input.
I looked into the "Ghost Jack" issue with the 650 and found a fix for it.

Hopefully I won't run into the issue, but I do have soldering experience from modding Xboxes (corroct pluralization?) if it comes up.

Anyway, I guess the main question at this point is has anyone used one for an MP3 player on their home stereo and had an issue with mono (just playing out of one side)?
