Need Help Help! Can you help me recover lost data?

So my computer crashed. The hard drive and the motherboard died, which got replaced under warranty.

Still waiting to hear from another computer geek if the data from the original hard drive is recoverable, but I digress...

Tonight I decided to sync my Treo 650 on my computer. At first it wouldn't sync at all. Then the desktop wouldn't open, even though it recognized the "profile" on my phone.

Then, when it finally DID sync, I soon discovered that all my calendar, contact, media and tasks data disappeared! However, the versamail account data is still intact, as well as the text messaging data. Third party apps are still on the phone. I looked on the palm desktop. There's NOTHING there.

The ironic thing is that I was getting ready to install some 3rd party backup software.

I'm just near tears here. Being a bookkeeper, the Treo keeps me on task as for as deadlines, etc., and I'll be sick if I can't recover that. Can y'all help?

    Thanks in advance!

I would say you are just plain out of luck. Politely, of course. As a note, I rarely have my laptop set to "desktop overwrites device," for the reason you just experienced.

Purchase a good backup program or if money is a factor, take a look at NVFS Backup.

Thing is, it wasn't set to desktop override handheld. If it had, then there would have been SOME contacts on my phone. Remember.. brand new hard drive, motherboard... I still hadn't been able to completely restore my outlook data yet.

I just don't understand WHY it did that.... but everything else was left intact. I'm usually very good at figuring things out and fixing it myself, but I'm just curious as to WHY the hotsync did this, and if it could be prevented in the future. I was getting ready to put a 3rd party backup on there in the first place.. that's what steams me.

If it is not in your phone anymore it is gone. Sorry for the bad news. I bought the basic backup buddy and it works well for me. Backs up to my card.

The only thing I can think of is if the OP used a new user id for his first sync. That could explain the missing records. I'd check to see if there is more than one user folder in the Palm Desktop folder.

That is true about the new user ID. Ben

    Default Lost Desktop Calendar events

I am using the desktop software instead of outlook, and I lost all of my calendar events but nothing else. I believe there is a backup on my computer, but do not know for sure. Can anybody give me a direction to take? I found a backup file on my desktop, but do not know how to get it to my handheld?
