Kreth, your right about anonymous relaying but this isn't an anonymous relay issue. Versamail does authenticate with the email server, but for some reason it does not allow you to send emails to the address you have listes as "your address".

    For example:

If I set up versamail and tell it my email address is joeuser@gmail.com and then try to send an email to joeuser@gmail.com I get the relaying error. The error is returned so quickly that I think Versamail doesn't even try to connect to the server.

If I could run ethereal (or some other packet sniffer) on the Treo then I could confirm my suspicions that it's the Versamail app, not the server or authentication.

Ah, I see what you're saying. That is a little strange. I thought the OP was getting the error message trying to send any message, though, which is why I made the comment in my previous post.

Yeah it is strange, real strange. One more reason to ditch Versamail, lol.

Well, I just tried the Sprint outgoing server fix, and not only did it not work, I now can't receive emails anymore, nor can I connect to the web. I've even set everything back to my Centurytel settings (for email). I heard somewhere that Sprint was having a server issue? I guess it's a good thing I don't actually NEED to use email and web access for my business, but I'm annoyed that I can't use it now, and I'm PAYING for it, fer cryin' out loud.

The error message I get (whether I'm within the service area or not) is "0x7301". I get this now when trying to access my email, and also when trying to connect to the internet. It just started happening Saturday evening, after I tried the outgoing email server fix. Does anyone here know anything about this?

This is some type of Sprint issue with Vision, I believe. Does your Treo hang with the message "Connecting to PCS Vision"? If so, power cycling the radio in your Treo should resolve it. Press and hold the red phone button until you see the splash screen with the Sprint logo and "Powering off". Once the splash screen goes away, press and hold the same button again until you see the Sprint splash screen that says "Welcome." After that you should be able to connect to Vision again.

    Rating or Review

Thank you everyone who advised me on this issue. I did try your suggestions; however, after having no success with them, I bit the bullet and rang up customer service...which turned out not to be very painful at all! I think I was on the phone for a total of 30 minutes (about 20 of that was on hold, natch), but I was connected with a tech support guy, and he had me dial some ##7744 number (or something like that), and a passcode or two, and basically reset the way my phone connects to the internet.

Upshot is--now I can not only get onto the web and receive my email, I can also SEND email, using my Centurytel outgoing mail server! Woohoo! I am a happy camper indeed.

My guess would be he either reset your phone to factory default settings, or reprovisioned it for Vision. Did you have to restore any data once he was done?

I did a little research. ##774 forces a reprovision for Vision (say that 3 times fast). Glad to hear that things are working now. The next step is trying out alternate e-mail clients...

Default problem sending email in Versamail

I had this problem sending email in Versamail and sending text messages. Cingular corrected the problem by replacing the Messaging Center Number. This corrected the problem for about a week. The same problem reacured and they had to do the same thing. No one can tell me why it is changing or why it just started. I had no problems receiving both email and messaging.
