Since you can receive email then your credentials (username/password) are good. Pop3 is used to retrieve your mail so the pop server settings must be correct as well. So the problem is pointing to the smtp settings. Double check your smtp server (gmails is smtp.gmail.com) settings in the versamail account setup section. Also check your port numbers and encryption settings in the advanced section. Gmail uses port 995 with ssl for incoming and port 587 with ssl and esmtp for outgoing. My guess is that you don't have the esmtp checked for the gmail account. Optonline's website lists mail.optonline.net as the pop3 and smtp server but they don't mention encryption anywhere that I can see. I know these gmail settings work because that's how mine is setup. If the optonline setup doesn't work then I'd try turning on ssl and esmtp.

    Good luck!

I'm having the same problem with my versamail account. I get an error that says "relaying denied" when I try to send. I've checked my account settings on my PC (I use Centurytel for my ISP/email service), and everything checks out when comparing to the settings on my Treo. I'm stumped now.

Your ISP probably doesn't allow SMTP use from outside their network. Keep in mind that when using Versamail, you're connected to your wireless carrier's network.

Sure, that makes sense. But am I out of luck now for sending email, or is there a fix I can use, such as the one mentioned here:

    http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/...html#post17725

And it so happens that I am a Sprint user, so I do have those passwords (or I will once I log on and remember them. Heh.)

    Thank you!

You're probably out of luck as far as sending through that ISP, but you should be able to send through your Sprint account. If you have a gmail account, that would work as well. If you don't, I have an invite if you'd like to try it.

What Jeff said is most likely true - I have the same problem with SBC..uh...now AT&T. When at home, I have to use my ISP's outgoing server for my work email.

The link you listed above makes sense to me - that would work - or you could sign up for gmail (no invite needed if you use your mobile number) and use that routing.

I was playing with Versamail the other day and I was able to reproduce the error you received. I think the proble lies in the Veramail program and not your provider. It appears that you cannot send to the address that you have listed as "your" email address in Versamail. At least that's the only way I was able to generate the error. I am on Sprint and I have several accounts set up with Gmail (using Snappermail).

Actually, most SMTP servers will return some variation of "relaying denied" if you attempt to send mail through them without authenticating first. In addition, many servers are configured to deny access if you are not on the provider's network, whether you athenticate or not.

On sprint I could not send e-mail with my pop3 server. I charged the outgoing to smtp.sprintpcs.com and it started working.

What is strange is later I entered my service provider outgoing server address and it worked too.
