Help from 650 experts please!!
I am a newbie to the Treo 650. I have been using a Kyocera 7135 for 3 years and can't live without it. Now that Verizon replaced my broken 7135 with a Treo 650, I am wondering if the features are as good as 7135.
1> How do I use this as a modem connected to a laptop. Can I use the hotsync cable and config the Treo 650 as a data enabled modem like the Kyocera 7135 can do.
2> From the datebook, can i select a phone number I have and dial it up directly from datebook?
3> When I am assigning FAVORITES, other than the voicemail button having a "1" next to it, the rest come out with a letter. I am trying to create speed dials that have 1-9, not the coresponding letters on the keys. Can this be done?
4> When I am in the phone mode, the backlight turns off quickly. like 20 seconds? Can I configure the backlight to stay on for longer, 1 or 2 minutes?
Also, is the Treo 650 a reliable phone? I've heard the screen break and crack really easily.
Thanks in advance for reading this.

I'll answer my question #1. Verizon told me that the Treo 650 can not be used as a modem for a laptop like the Kyocera 7135 can. That sucks. Strike 1
Now on to #2 and #3

Verizon disabled this feature of wireless modem. I heard Sprint did too but may reverse that due to complaints.
I believe this is driven by Verizon and not PalmOne.

Okay, now I can answer #2 by myself too. Got a freeware app called FIELDPLUS. Works great. Among many cool things this program does is that you can highlight or select text anywhere including calendar, then directly dial the number. Very cool
Now if someone can answer #3 and #4, I'll be very happy with this Treo 650

#3
Q4. If you go into prefs on the system menu . Then select power and you can set your auto-off time up to three minutes.
Q3. Now for question three I believe there is no way to set favorite contacts to a number. I am pretty positive about this cause there is no way to hold down a number without hitting the bottom key to the right to switch from letters to numbers. And in the phone screen you can't even use that function.

Re. #3 - In practice, what is the difference? In other words, if you want a speed-dial for "2", selecting "R" will give you the same result. This bothered me at first too, until I realized that I really liked being able to set "W" as work, "K" for my wife (her first initial), "H" for home, etc.
Someone already responded to #4, but there is also a free app called "Always On" that will give you even more options, including never turning off the screen.

the fastdial no. thing also annoyed me as on my old nokia 4 was main switch board, 3 was home etc. and now i was supposed to use letters...how annoying.
but then i noticed that the number keys have letters assigned to them too so main switch board remains 4 but is actually D and home (3) is now T. suits me fine as i don't have to re-learn the fastdial no.s for further navigation quick links i use Butler
reliable? absolutely! screen break and crack? not in my experience and personally i wouldn't like to live the life my treo has too: been dropped more often a paratrooper!
