Default Help getting tunes/books to Treo using Card Export II

First, thanks to the regular posters on this forum. I've learned a lot just browsing. I love my new Treo, but I'm having trouble setting it up to play music and audiobooks.

I have a SanDisk Ultra II 2G SD card (card info says its a genuine). BTW I paid $88 on Amazon, after returning a phony bought on PriceGrabber). I downloaded demo versions of Card Export II and Pocket Tunes and thought I was good to go.

I'm using a PC with Windows XP-home and my brouser is Foxfire (not sure if that is important).
I copied a CD and also downloaded an audiobook from NetLibrary to Windows Media Player and I then closed WMP.

Before reopening WMP, I connect the Treo to the computer with the hotsync/USB cable and set Card Export II to "connect to desktop". Then I open Pocket Tunes.
In WMP, I select the music/audiobook I want to copy to the SD card and select "copy to CD or device". On the right side of the WMP window, I select "supported portable devices and drivers". However, that selection is always ignored and "C Drive E:" is the only option available. I assume that means that the computer/WMP is not "seeing" the SD card or the Treo. Would I be better off getting a regular card reader and forgetting about Card Export?

I did manage to get an audiobook to Pocket Tunes by downloading it to the desktop, dragging it into PalmOne QuickInstall, and then doing a hotsync. However it would not play because the license did not transfer with it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

Default H-e-l-p - Audio

I am in the same boat - and going from bad to worse.

I wrote yesterday that I was able to get one CD from my Audio Book onto the Treo but don't remember how I did it and having trouble getting the next ones transferred.

NOW I can't even play those first files. When I go to pTunes I get an error message that says:
Error - Unable to play audio file. To select new music, select the Open menu item from theActions menu in Pocket Tunes.

There is one music file I have on there that will play.

I know it is something I've done in the HOURS I've spent trying to make playlists and going from Windows Meda Player to iTunes and prob changing things I'm not supposed to change. I'm soooo frustrated. Audio books is one of the main reasons I got my Treo and it driving me crazy. I'm trying to read all kinds of instructions but getting more confused as I go.

Can anyone help me from square ONE.

Thanks so much in advance.

If the audio book has any type of DRM, then you won't be able to play it in pTunes.

Thanks for the prompt reply Kreth - but yesterday I had one (from the same CD) on the Treo and listened to it with no problem. Then when I tried to put the second CD on I couldnt' figure out how to do it again.

I know it is some setting I screwed up - I feel sure something on Windows Media Player or iTunes. One would pop up and I'd be messing around there - then the other would come up and I be trying from there. I don't understand which I should be using to put the audio book onto the Treo.

I even wondered if I should totally uninstall Windows Media Player, iTunes and pTunes and start from scratch. I guess I need to read some sort of manual on iTunes and Media Player since I don't understand all the different catagories - Library, Playliste, etc. etc.
I know I sound pretty stupid but I normally don't have trouble finding my way around on the computer, etc.

The other thing I wonder about is - how I can put more than one CD on the CD at a time since they all just list Track 1, Track 2, on and on. How do I differenciate between all the Track 1's, 2's and so on.

Thank everyone for all your patience! LOL - listen to me assuming your all being patient - ha ha.

What format are you ripping the files to?

Just rename the files after you rip them, maybe something like <name of book>-cd1-track1.mp3 (without the <>, of course).

Mpeg (or mpg) is a video file type. Do you mean mp3?

Duh!! Yes - Sorry - I meant MP3's.

I went to CompUSA and talked to a fella there that has a Treo650 and he was able to help and explain what I was doing wrong.

I'm gradually getting the hang of it. I guess once I get a few books transferred to my Treo I'll know what I'm doing. I am beginning to wonder if it isn't easier just to listen to these audio books from a portable CD Player - LOL - and the main reason I got the Treo was to listen to them. Oh but I LOVE my Treo and I still combined my Palm and my cell phone into one device - plus I'm able to get onto the Internet and get my email.

After I get this lesson under my belt I have to learn how to instant message and watch some videos. Guess I'll never be done learning - but I do love the challange and the technology.
