help with my new vrz treo 650
I ordered a used but in great shape treo on ebay and so far I am quite happy with it. I realized that vrz was charging a whopping $45/ month for the web/email. Fortunately, I dont need those services, i just wanted to combine my mobile phone with my palm tungsten e2 with the added bonus of mp3. I ordered a skin and car charger on ebay and got a 2gb sd card. I am ready to go, right? Nope.... I did not get an instalation cd....so....I ordered one on ebay. I couldnt wait to sync my treo.
Here is the problem I am having... I put in the installation cd and I get this error.
Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from file C:\windows\installer\palmone.msi
I tried to remove my old palm1 software thinking I could just beem any important #'s and contacts. But it will not leave my laptop. We are getting a new monitor for our desktop so maybe I can try on there?
Any suggestions? I have been through these threads and haven't found anything much to help.
Thanks! Doodle

Try this link from Palm's website for information on cleaning up an older Palm Desktop installation. In addition, I would suggest not trying to restore from your old Tungsten user folder. There may be programs in there that are incompatible with the Treo. Get the Palm Desktop install working, then install your favorite third-party apps one at a time, checking for Treo compatibility before installing.

I have no idea. It's primarily used when the installer package has gone missing and is preventing you from reinstalling an app.

Not likely. Even if it did, you'd only have what you hve now....Norton updated to this point. Not renewing just means you won't get updates, which would leave you vulnerable to anything new coming up. If you don't renew, you'll still keep the protection level you have right now.
My advice, though, is it's worth it. Malware cost me a computer a couple years ago. Since then, I have no qualms keeping my protections up to date.

Finally! I got it to work!
Thanks! I was able to take off the old Palm1 software and put on the Treo software and get all of my games and volume care! I feel great....except for one little thing.
The light on the top of my treo is flashing green and will not stop. It makes it difficult to sleep. Just kidding it is just plain anoying!
I wonder if I should have started a new thread since it was diverted to another topic???
Thanks so much for helping us newbies!

Yeah, I remember that it was for me, too, on my 650. You might want to look into Butler (available in the software section) or LEDOff.

I am guessing that if the blinking light bothers you that you probably don't want to be bothered by a pesky phone call while sleeping. Turn off the radio (phone) and the blinking should stop. Hold the red phone button until it turns off.
I hope this is of help.

Blinking light
OK... I looked all over and could not find the "lcd off". I turned the phone off and the blinking is still....BLINKING! I guess I could try the butler but would rather try to manage with out purchasing more software if at all possible:foot:
Thanks again for your help.

If your phone's off and the LED's blinking, that isn't the coverage light, that's an alert. Is there a flashing asterisk in the upper left-hand corner of the screen? Press and hold the center button of the 5-way and it will display any outstanding alerts.
