I don't think MP3 ringtone support is provided natively. You need to use a third-party app like 'RingoPro' or 'Phone technician'. I LOVE having System of a Down blaring when a call comes in

aside from phone technician/ringo..etc...you will need an third party mp3 player...use aeroplayer since it's the most stable, based on experience...great audio too!!

    Default Actually

you DON'T need a third-party MP3 player, because the 650 supports MP3's natively(via the craptacular Real Player). However, if you ARE going to go with a third-party music app, I HIGHLY recommend Pocket Tunes. You can even use it to listen to internet radio stations, which is absolutely amazing(Khaha.com is my fave channel so far).

You can record your own ringtones (go to sound & alerts, 1minute max). The problem I ran into is outside noise. If you can figure a way to get a direct feed for recording then you won't need another program.

Yes, but you do need one for ringtones. Options are Phone Technician, Ringo Pro (see review) and mRing. There is also Lightwav.

You can find them in our Treo store or at any of the regular electronics stores - Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

    I HIGHLY recommend Pocket Tunes.
I second that! Here's the review for those interested.

what is this SD card? and do i need one to download music or "real tones" (those are ringtones that are songs, like CD quality songs...none of that polyphonic stuff) to my treo 650?

    I have lightwav. and Pockettunes.

i'm a little confused - what format do the songs have to be in in order to make them ringtones? i've heard wav... and mp3. what's the difference?

please explain. pretend i'm a child. cause i'm basically that dumb.

At the top of your Treo 650, you'll notice a "card slot". There is a "dummy" card in that slot. You can safely remove this card and replace it with a Secure Digital Memory Card. Think of this as expanding the hard drive of the Treo. Really basic, you're increasing the size of your closet. With an SD Card, you can store more stuff. Given the size of music files (normally called MP3's and use the file extension .mp3), it makes sense to put them on an SD Card. Once you have an SD Card installed, you can move MP3 files to the card using an SD Card Reader. Both SD Cards and Memory Card readers are available at our store or at any local brick and mortar electronics store - Best Buy/Circuit City.

From there, you can use a Ringtone Manager to use your MP3's as ringtones. As an owner of PocketTunes, you'll also be able to listen to music files on your SD Card.

    Hope this clears things up.

    Hey,

Do you need a SD card reader to put mp3 files on the Treo?
