    Default help with VZN

I recently tried to do the update on my 650, and when i did it it looked like everything went well, then an hour later it started reseting itself, after it was done and loaded back up, it says searching for network, not picking anything up at all, i called verizon, the ran me through the reset (hard) still would do anythig. Just wondering if there was a disk or something i could install to get it back to the factory setting so it would connect to the network. I am now using mu cheap motarola untill i can figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Rob

You might try doing a search of these boards using "verizon update" or something similar. I recall seeing a number of posts about severe problems with that update.

Check the palm site and look for the various types of resets. If the "hard" reset didn't work I think the only other possibility might be what is called a "zero out reset".

Keep in mind that if any of the update you did took, it may have altered the rom. I don't know if there is anything that can reverse that.

You may even have to fight with Verizon for a replacement if their update fried your Treo.

    Do you have insurance?

i have tried the zero out things, still doesnt work, i called verizon, and the said since i activated my motarola that the insurance wouldnt cover it, I have also searched through here and tried multiple other things that was told to do but nothing seems to be working. If its fried its pretty much shot right..

Are you saying you had insurance on the Treo and because you needed a phone and activated your old one, that Verizon won't replace the Treo because you activated the old one???????

If so, that is outrageous!!!! You better start finding some supervisors at Verizon and keep climbing the ladder. They have to have records showing a number of problems with their update and once you find the right level person they should replace the phone.

I don't know if finding their local District rep or Regional rep will be helpful, but I certainly wouldn't be as laid-back about an expensive phone being fried by an update they produced and distributed.

    Just my $.02.

Steve is right. I think the thread was warning version update or close to it. I think someone got it to work by resetting and thenturning the unit off or something. If I come accross the thread I'll copy the link here.

They should replace the phone for you ask for the boss. You did not follow the proper procedure in getting your phone covered. You must verify that you are sending it in (RMA number?) or confirm they are sending a replacement. Once that is done you don't have to wait two days for your phone you can activate the old moto phone.

With Sprint you lose any rebates on a new phone if you activate a different or temp phone.

I don't have Verizon, but I have done a couple of updates with Sprint and I am not aware of any firmware updates that require an SD card. The firmware is usually an update to the basic operation of the system and a Treo will run and operate fine if you never use an SD card.

How do you think that screwed you up?

One issue I have seen noted is that most updates REQUIRE you to have the Treo connected to a power source before beginning. I believe that is due to the length of time it takes, the starting, stopping, restarting, etc. and if the battery dies in the middle of the update you will wind up with an expensive paperweight.
