How exactly does it fail to sync. Does it connect, then time out, not connect at all?

I've also recently been experiencing hotsync problems. The hotsync starts okay, and after awhile, it just stops--usually while working on my calendar (the most important feature, besides contacts, that I use!). So I've been left with mulitple copies of calendar entries, and it actually *erased* previous entries (thank goodness it didn't erase future dates, or I'd be sunk!).

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I run Office 2000 (and hotsync to Outlook), and MS no longer supports 2000 and wants me to upgrade to 2003? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Palm software, but that hasn't worked. I'm worried now that if I have a crash, I'll lose a lot of critical information. Help?
