Default Hotsync Issues - Not finding Treo

I just ran into this problem. I never hotsync I just use backup buddy. Well now I want to put Mp3's and stuff on my phone and the only way I know how to do it is to HotSync or use a Card Reader. I only have a HotSync Cable. It seems that windows XP recognizes the USB but can't figure out what the device is and says it's malfunctioning unit.

Anyone had this problem. It's worked before.

I had this problem and it ended up being that the usb jack didn't like the cord. It works on everything else, but hates the hotsynch cord. I just switched it and it orked. Hope this helps.

I switched USB ports as well and still the same thing.

I even tried to manually install the USB drivers from the software download and it won't find them.

Default Try this

I know it sounds silly but it worked with my PowerBook.
Plug in the cable to the USB port, wait a couple of seconds, THEN plug in your Treo.
If that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall Palm Desktop (latest version).

Good luck.

Hi K
I noticed that you are in RTP. Please help a fellow North Carolinian. I was only able to sync one time with my treo650 (cingular) and now I get that "dirty connection" sound when I press the sync button on my cable. And even more confusing, I get the "clean connection" sound when I unplug the sync cable. I have cleaned the bottom of the phone and swapped out the cable. I am not very technically inclined so I am at a loss as to what to try next. I have been to the cingular store where I was given absolutely no help.

Default me too

I also had this problem. I have XP and Cingular Treo 650. I did it all-reinstalled software and everything. I finally got it to work with reinstalling the software and using the cable that came with Treo. Also went into Setup of HS Mgr and set modem at COM3 before it all finally worked.
Not sure if any of that helps, but it is always nice to know someone else is suffering with the same problems.
