Default Hotsync loop that never ends!

Hi all,

Recently I woke up to the annoying beeping sound that was coming from my Treo. When I checked it out I saw that it was stuck in a hotsync loop. The phone wasn't connected by usb to my laptop, but my laptop was nearby.

I checked the Palm site and there is a reported issue with a hotsync loop being caused by an application stuck in Quick Install (Solution ID 35306). The problem is I dont have anything in quick install and I havent installed anything on my Treo since I bought it. I went thru the steps to fix the problem anyways, warm reset followed by a soft reset. The warm reset stops the looping, but at that point the phone won't turn on. When I try the soft reset I get stuck in the loop again!

I have been able to get the phone working twice in the last couple of days. Once after a hard reset and once after a warm/soft reset. Both times, the hotsync loop came back.

Has anyone heard of this problem before, and is there a way to fix it? Or is my Treo totally FUBAR.

Thanks!

constant reset is usually some rogue software. have you recently installed something? i found treo once trying to access a bluetooth connection i hadn't asked for and had to reset out of it. who knows.

i'd suggest a hard reset if it keeps misbehaving.

I havent installed anything lately. The last think I put on it was the '24' ringtone, but that was about two months ago. The first hard reset temporarily got the phone working again, but after I hotsynced it to my laptop the looping started again.

Right now, a hard reset wont even get it working again temporarily. The phone actually reboots during the hard reset. I'll probably just take it back tomorrow and ask for a replacement.

Default Hot Sync- Never ends- Intrinsic Flaw

too had a problem with my Treo getting caught in a never ending Hot Sync loop! After exahusting all options- soft reset, warm reset, re-installing the Palm software, upgrading my palm software, I finally did a hard reset. I temporarily thought I corrected the problem when my phone was in "organiser" mode- but as soon as I activated blue tooth or put the actual "phone" on, it would immediately go into hot sync mode. Even the hard reset which is upposed to fix any software related problem did not help. The device still went into hot sync mode. After several hard resets, I had my treo replaced. At the verizon store, I was informed that you sould only have to do a hard reset once, and if the phone still doesn't work, it needs to be replaced. Obviously this is a problem instrinsic to this phone model. That explains why it was on "clearance" for $49.99

This problem resembles a "virus" that starts on the palm desktop software and it eventually corrupts the phone to the point of no return. Perhaps it is a defective file- but the end result is the same- the phone must be replaced!

Based on reading this forum, I have noticed that some individuals have had to reolace their phone three or moe times. My only suggestion is this: if you are unfortunate to be stuck with this phone and have it replaced, then you need to uninstall your palm sotware and reinstall it. Individually find the files to back up your address, calandar and memo data- if you can identify & find where they are stored and wipe out everything else. You will need to start from scratch.
