Post HotSync Treo 650 with PC via BT

Hello,

I am trying to sync my Treo 650 with my PC via BlueTooth.

It says Port in Use.

Infact while Setting up the HotSync via Blurtooth itself, I get to a step " Create a Virtual Serial Port on your PC. To do so follow the instructions that come with the Pc's Bluetooth".

I am not sure what are the instructions to follow. I think I went wrong right at this step.

I am not sure how to set the Virtual Serial Port on my PC.

I use PC with Win XP Prof.

I tried to follow instructions from an unknown link on the Web.

It says "Port in Use".

Please let me know:

1. The steps to setup Virtual Serial POrt.
2. Troubleshooting steps to follow if I receive "Port in Use" error even after correct Setup.

Thanks in advance,
Johnson.

I edited your thread title. You had 700P, but your post referred to a 650, and you posted this in the 650 forum.
The instructions are referring to the documentation for your PC Bluetooth hardware. Does your PC have built-in Bluetooth, or is it a dongle?

I believe you go to the control panel, printers and other hardware, bluetooth devices. You can go to the comport tab and setup up a port. Also setup your pc to be discoverable and allow bluetooth devices to connect to pc. Once you have setup your settings (trusted pair) and can hot sync you can turn of the discoverable setting.

Here's the problem I am having with syncing with BT:

I tried to set up the BT virtual serial port on my PC and it tells me that my Treo 650 doesn't support service "bluetooth serial port".

My PC finds the Treo but says "no services found" on the Treo.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Never seen that message before. Your pc is giving you the message or the treo? If it is the pc you may have to set up the port again.

In hotsync manager (on the taskbar) what are your settings? Is local selected?

The Bluetooth dongle has a set of preferences that have to be enabled in order to get the various services up and running. Once you get past that, there should be no problem. My 700p has never seen a sync cable and my 650 saw one for just a couple of months. Bluetooth may be slower, but it sure is convenient.

I made security not required on the BT serial port. It then finds the service, OBEX Object Push. I go through the steps to hotsync on the Treo and my pc tells me the Treo is connected to the BT serial port. It then craps out and never syncs.

Any other help?? Thanks

It turned out the serial port switched to 5 and it should be 4. I switched it back and now it syncs. However, each time I have tried to sync, it gets interrupted after about 2/3 of the way through, telling me the connection is lost. I haven't moved my pc or my treo. anyone else run into this problem?

Informative PPP packet refresh

some computers have set up a "ping" about 5 minutes out
root around in the bluetooth control panel on the PC
uncheck the PPP packet refresh or some such option
should stop disconnecting on you
good luck

Jack

that makes alot of sense Jack. Thanks. However, when I open my BT configuration, nowhere can I find the option to uncheck the PPP. Does anyone know where it is? Thanks.
