Default How do i know if my Treo 650 is Unlocked

Sorry if this sounds flakey--I'll spare you the explanation and just pose my question. I bought a Treo 650 on eBay and I think it was unlocked... But I don't know if it was originally a Cingular phone that was unlocked after the fact or an original Unlocked GSM. My carrier now is Cingular. I've since installed Treo650-1.15-CNB as the firmware...

Is there a way I can tell by the HS SN number? Does anyone know how to read these? Under phone info it also says Harware: A (i dont know if that yields any clue...)

I've used the phone on and off for the past year and frankly it's been nothing but trouble. Especially trying to sync it with a Mac... That was such a nutty nightmare that I gave up on the Treo and went back to my little old Nokia, which although not "smart" at least functioned reliably as a cell phone. I am now back to trying to get my Treo 650 to work--I so badly want it to because I can see the great potential of this device but more and more I'm concluding that this phone is not just not worth the time, money, and headaches. I hope someone will prove me wrong! Thanks for letting me vent.

All that is to say, I wonder what type of phone I actually have and if the firmware is a problem...

Any help will get you a gold star the size of Rhode Island! Thank you.

P.S.: I don't have a particular allegiance to Macs, but am I the only one here who is astounded by the fact that for all the money in the world you can't by a PDA Phone that is a swift no-brainer for Mac use? I'm not the brightest guy in tech matters, but I do have a PhD and a lot of basic experience with computers--I can't stop wondering how the average individual user is able to get up and running with one of these... Is is me? Do I have a bogus Treo? Do I have the Treo that I've somehow set up incorrectly?

I think the best thing to do would be to find a friend with a different carrier like T-Mobile and ask to borrow there SIM for a minute and put the SIM in your Treo and if it's unlocked it will boot up and say T-Mobile on the screen if your testing with a T-Mobile SIM and you could even try to make a test call. But if it is locked your phone will ask for a subsidy lock code or say wrong SIM and you can't use the features. I have never tried to check if a Treo is unlocked I have only played around with Motorolas but I'm assuming the Treo would probably be close to the same as far as errors, etc. Hope this helps.
