Default How do I read files from SD card on Treo?

I just got a Treo 650. It didn't come with any wires to hook to my PC. I am trying to put programs on my sd card them open them to install on the Treo. For some reason I cannot see anything on my card when I try to look in the card using my Treo... I heard I need a file explorer (manager) yet when I put the file on my sd card I cannot see it when I put it in my Treo. Am I doing something wrong? Please help...:foot:

A device based file management application - FileZ is excellent and free. Many third party launchers have file management capability built in. If the computer you are syncing with has Bluetooth capabilities or you have a Bluetooth adapter for it, you can also use an application such as Palm File Browser (free and on the 650 it is excellent) and also works with USB via the sync cable. I have not been able to get Palm File Browser working on my 700p via Bluetooth.

Jessedee, so at the top right of each screen is a pull down showing all the categories on the treo; when you pull this down you should see CARD. Have you done this and you say the CARD page is blank? Like Benjie suggested, get FileZ installed first and then you can browse away.

I have done file transfers between my Thinkpad laptop and my treo via Infrared beaming as well, works fine; but to do a complete hotsync would take a while by beaming.

I suggest you go into the Treo Store on this website (see tab at the top of this page next to HOME) and buy a USB sync cable for the treo 650, some of them even act as chargers. Very affordable.

Never have installed software directly to the card from pc.....I have always synced either bluetooth or cable. Dollface s advice is good to look through the menu app screen. Should be all, utilities, card etc... Some programs will not work from your card just the device only.

Ben is right on with filez you can move files back and forth between card and treo.

The programs will need to be compatable with your treo to work. I believe you copy the program to your launcher folder on your card to get the treo to see it.

Ben, you're right, the installed programs need to be in the Card/Palm/Launcher folder for there to be an icon on the Palm so you can open it. I have hotsynced programs into my card on the treo and then when you click on it, on the card, it opens and installs it, on the card. But some like Google Maps, need to be installed in the main memory and launched, then you move the installed program over to the card. Strange but true.........

Dollface I am not Ben (flattered), he knows alot more than me. (See Signature).

Also can't tell by the first post if the poster is seeing the card or just can't see programs or you can't see the card.

If the card is in you should see a card menu in the apps menu . (keep hitting apps button to scroll through the catagories.

Yep, the application/short cut has just gotta be in main memory or in the /Palm/Launcher folder to be seen. I used a card reader for a very short period until one great day in paradise, the card mechanism in my first 700P broke and at that time, I only used the card reader to move large files. Due to the card mechanism malfunction, I now only use Bluetooth for the 700p, 650 and Centro. It takes a bit longer, but the physical stress on the card and card mechanism is greatly reduced.
