    Default I'm making progress!

I found a page on the Palm site about doing a 'zero out' hard reset. Tricky and unfortunately didn't seem to do anything. Although, I also have a feeling it didn't work exactly as it should have.

Anyway, I thought I would try my original Cingular SIM card that I have and see if that makes any difference. So, on a newly hard resetted device, I plug the card in and fire up the phone. Guess what? It worked! I was now able to type longer messages again. Okay, so I plug in my Fido SIM and it still works.

    Good!

Now I do something stupid. I do a full restore of my device from the backup I took before I started the 'zero out' process. It's messed up again. But at least i'm working up to a solution.. And fortunately my device is still basically working!

    Stay tuned..

    Default Final solution

Okay, I have to admit to being totally confused and bewildered. I've got it working though! Just that the solution is the weirdest i've ever had to use.

But probably one of the simplest.

My solution? Without making any changes to my handheld, I simply turned off the phone, took out my SIM card, plugged in the original Cingular SIM card, turned on the phone, started a new message and ... voila! It's working fine..

So I switched SIMs back again, wrote a test message, and it's still working.

I can't think why it's working or what happened that allows it to work as it should, but it does. And i'm happy again. So happy i've just written a message a total of 765 characters long (that's 5 messages by the way) just for the fun of it.

I can't guarantee this would work for everyone! But it worked for me. Give it a try? You could probably do the same trick with any other SIM card that you know works, as long as it's either on the same network or, if you have an unlocked phone, any network.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

I am surprised that it did work for me also. I am only worried that it may revert unexpectedly back to 160 characters and no more.

    Cheers

I have that same worry, but at least now I have an easy solution with what seems like zero risk and others can benefit from it.

I'd like to know exactly how it happened, or at least what changed. It would be nice to have a program that can just 'fix' it without the need to switch SIMs.
