How to rename user on my Treo 650?

OK, it's got to be simple: How do I give a new user name to the used 650 that I just bought from ebay? I just can't find the place to delete the previous owner's name, and substitute my own name.

The first sync of the device with your desktop will do the trick. If the desktop all ready has an active Palm device, then rename that folder to something like OLDxx. It will then recreate another folder for the "new" device with the name you specify.

Thanks for your answer to my post, Benjie. I'm still confused and having trouble, though.

I've been using a Treo 650 (Ted's Palm) and syncing it with palm desktop on my computer. There's lots of data on Ted's Palm (identical to the desktop data) that I want to put on my replacement Treo 650.

I was successful in renaming the replacement Treo, and I named it Ted's Palm, just like the old one, hoping that when I synced it, it would sync with Ted's Palm user on the desktop and sync all the data there.

No luck. A screen comes up saying that duplicate users are not allowed, and that I should go in and change the name of the user on desktop to something else, thereby allowing me to sync the Ted's Palm Treo with the desktop. But that wouldn't get all the data on desktop into my replacement palm.

What should I do?


I don't really care what the user name is (although Ted's Palm would be preferable), but what I do want is that all the data from the old Ted's Palm account be put on the replacement Treo. That must be possible, but I feel like a dope that I can't do it so far.

Anything that you can tell me to help me out with all of this I will very much appreciate!

Hard reset the replacement device. When you sync it will ask which username you want to sync with. Choose the old "Ted's Palm" and it should sync everything from your old device.
