I have no idea what I'm doing with this thing. Pleeease take pity on me.
My girlfriend's hubby got a new phone and gave me his verizon treo 650. All I want to do is put the White Stripes "Icky Thump" on it as my ringtone...I've never had a phone capable of having actual music as a ringtone before so I'm pretty excited... Unfortunately, I am not only nearly completely palm pilot illiterate, but I think that I am also missing a very important piece of software...isn't there supposed to be a CD or something that comes with this thing? Otherwise, I don't see how I can possibly "link" (link? is that the right word) it up with my computer...I didn't even know I had an SD drive until this afternoon. I can't believe how confused I am by all of this...And what's with not being able to download tunes from Verizon's media store. The lady said the treo wasn't compatible with their program. Heh?! Is that or isn't it a big, old verizon logo slapped across the front of the phone...UGH!!! Anyway, I would be so thankful for anyone who could even point me in the right direction...

Unfortunately the lady is right. The treo does play regular music but you have to put the music together or find someone that has it in the right format. There are posts out there on how to do this. There are also several free programs that will convert an mp3 into the file Treo needs to play it. I got ringcare and volume care on mine and they work great at controling my volume and ringtones. In order to make full use of your treo you will need the usb sync cable that came with it and the cd. Or you can purchase the cable from Ebay which is pretty cheap and download the desktop manager from the Palm site. I would do a search on this forum on using ring tones with the Treo 650 and see what you get. Good luck.

Hey, thanks so much for your reply! I was starting to think I had cooties... I actually gave up yesterday and got a chocolate. It's compatible with verizon's software and I don't have to pay the monthly PDA network fee...and I got my ringtone. I am so addicted to instant gratification...

I think the LG Chocolate is the same as the LG Vu which I bought about four months ago. I did not like it at all. I liked the business no nonsense of the Treo and finally after I got tired of complaining I dusted my Treo 650 and put the Vu away. A friend of mine came over this weekend and saw it and fell in love with it. I gave it to him with a smile on my face. I couldn't get used to the touch screen on the Vu. The contact list was deplorable and I don't need all the media stuff the Vu had. Darn thing kept wanting to go on line every time I did something. I am looking at upgrading to a Treo 750 with the Windows OS. You can get a wifi card for it and use it to surf at the hotspots and not have to pay ATT for their data service. The next upgrade will probably be to give ATT the boot.
We all get what makes us happy. If the chocolate is making you happy then be glad you got rid of the Treo. I was the oposite but to each his own.
