I need some answers....
Hi my name is Brandon. I got my treo 650 from verizon a week ago. This is the best phone i have ever owned. I hooked up the Shadowmites dun fix last night to my laptop. It works great with the laptop. My only problem is I was wondering about how dun counts as airtime usage with this. I have the 45 dollar unlimited national access plan. Does it count toward your minutes or not when you use dun? I also have the national access card the is $64 dollars a month but this is better. Have a nice weekend everyone and thanks for any replies.

The DUN patch allows you to use your Treo as a modem by calling a dial-up ISP number, establishing a data connection, and passing that data connection to your computer. That Treo call is like any other Treo call, and minutes used are minutes used.
What I don't understand in your case is why you care, since you've got an unlimited minutes plan. If you use DUN a lot, an unlimited minutes plan is exactly what you want.

Is that really the case? I would expect the data connection is directly to Verizon, and wouldn't be a call to an ISP that would use minutes. I would expect that it's data usage and not minute usage, but I guess that also depends on how the network configuration is done on the Treo.

I was under the impression it was a data call, also. I thought that was part of what made it such an attractive option, that it wouldn't use up precious minutes and possibly impact your bill.

Thanks for the great replies. My thinking is that it just uses data and not minutes. I guess i'll have to wait till first bill to find out. I have the national access card also, but the treo is a more stable connection at my house. Does anyone know how to get past the 2mb limit on Blazer? Thanks again

Apologies for not clarifying. The DUN BT profile simply allows your BT-enabled device (computer, other handheld, etc.) to avail itself of another device's data connection without a cable. That's it. The way you establish that connection is up to you. You're absolutely right: if you choose your wireless provider's data service (Verizon National Access, Sprint Vision, etc.) as the way you establish that data connection then yes, it's data minutes and not voice minutes you're using.
In my case, I use a dial-up service, not Verizon's data service. You can easily set up a new "network" in the Treo's Preferences > Network panel. For me, using a dial-up connection made more sense because 1. Verizon's unlimited data plan costs $60/month (less if you bundle it with voice minutes, but you get much less talk time). For that price, I can increase my monthly minutes to 2000, plenty for the DUN time I utilize and it's more flexible b/c I can also choose to use those minutes for voice, 2. there's no Broadband Access (3G) in my area. Download speeds are therefore National Access speeds (~ 60 kB), about the same as a NetZero v.92 dial-up connection, for only $10/month (and there are promotional offers for $4/month).
My response was based on my own usage. Sorry for misleading you.

Thanks for the reply. Its definitely a data call and not voice. Its interesting you can use netzero with it. I would have never known that. Thanks again everyone.
