Default Is Butler Doing This?

You can see below the add-on apps that I have. I think its Butler that is putting this notification on my screen, but I can't find anything on their website that talks about this. Sometimes I have either a flashing asterisk or an "exploding asterisk" flashing in the top left of my screen. Anyone know what's doing this and what they mean?

I believe what you are seeing is the Treo's alert that you have a message waiting or alarms you haven't acknowledged. Here is what is in the printed manual, page 238:

There’s a Blinking Symbol at the Top of the Screen
The blinking asterisk at the top of the screen is the Alert Manager symbol. It appears when you have alarms or messages that you haven't acknowledged.
1.Press and hold Center or tap the Alert Manager symbol with your stylus.
2.A list of pending alarms or messages appears.
Select the text of an alarm or message to view the item and keep it in the list.
Check the alarm or message box to clear it from the list, and then select Done.

Default Flashing Symbol

I had one today...it was a missed call. I had another one that was an alarm that a "pull" off my Versamail had failed. I am not sure if it the same symbol...it sounds like it though

Butler isn't doing it, although if you have Butler set to bug you about missed alarms, it will perpetuate that reminder.

You can set Versamail to not remind you about failures to auto sync. Go to the preferences menu and select auto-sync. You'll find the box to uncheck there.

Is the Butler program worth getting? If so...where have you found the best price to get it at?

I actually liked the "Central" program better - it does everything Butler does plus a few other things. However, after I installed it, I ran into some problems that I'm pretty sure were caused by Central. It has this cool feature where you can set times for the radio (phone) to turn on and off, and also set to "Do not disturb" so that it will automatically go quiet if you have a regular meeting (e.g., every day, every week). And it will turn the phone on after a reset. That's what got me - it would get stuck on the Cingular "welcome" screen and there was no way out but to reset; I finally had to hard reset and get rid of Central.

Butler has great alarm features, plus can override your LED settings, set up master "hot keys," let you use the up/down phone volume switch on the side for scrolling, and has a much better keyguard. I like it quite a bit, but it seems stupid to have to pay for something that the Treo ought to have on it. Check it out - there's a free trial period. I have gotten both software and accessories from the Treonauts site, and have had very good service and success with them. Haven't tried the store on this site (just found out about it), but maybe will have a look around.

Default Butler Info

Thanks for the info...I might just have to try it out. I never knew about the treonauts site until you told me. Wow, there are a bunch of sites dedicated to these things. I never would have imagined it until now. I find out more and more every day...every hour!!!

Default add ons

i'm using Butler after commendations from this site and the support (ie the developer!!) is totally cool. i use various functions but particularly

over-riding the led- turned off as constant plashing (partic in the dark just annoys me) but useful as different silent alerts for me- solid green =new SMS, red =new voicemail

hide sms popup

alarms (multiple for difficulty getting up but set for diferent days)

navigator/hotkeys

enable sidebar buttons

as for the on/off thing i use treooff/on to automate NOT getting calls on nights when off duty

but as you say, why aren't these useful things standard? i have longed for a combined pda/phone but do miss some of the easy utilities of the phone.

That was the solution to my issue. Sorry for the delay. I appreciate your help.
