    Need Help JavaScript

    Hi,

I am hving trouble logging into my MLS website on my Treo 650 and called for tech support. I was told that my browser (blazer) doesnt' have JavaScript and CSS which is required for me to access the MLS website. I called cingular and they said that they don't supprt javascript and put me on the phone with Palm Support. Palm said that there is no way to have Javascript on my 650. This seems unlikely to me so I thought I would ask here.

It is hard for me to believe that of all the Treo 650s out there that this is not available thru a thhird party, and according to Palm there is no 3rd party software to do that. Am I really out of luck? The main reason I bought this phone is because it would work with the electronic lock boxes that we use. I also wanted to have access to the MLS when I was away from a PC. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Hi Bob:

I am not an expert in Treos or JavaScript. I do know that when you open Blazer, press the menu key, select Options, then Preferences and tap the General tab, I do see a checkbox for "Disable JavaScript". Is that box checked or unchecked?

The fact the box is there must mean the browser supports some part(s) of JavaScript.

That is about all I can contribute.

    Good luck,

    Thanks Steve,

The box is unchecked on my browser. I really haven't had any other websites that have given me problems so I don't know if it is a java issue or an issue with this website only.

Java is easy to setup on the Treo 650 and even easier on the 700p - the reason for the 700p is that it just has more memory. Anyway, the file you need is WEME571.zip - you can get it from Palm. Within that file you need to extract the following:

fileconnect.prc, J9javaVMMidp20.prc, JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc (or the appropriate language file), pimop.prc and PIMPrefs.prd and of course read the docs.

I suggest this would be a good time to use a third party launcher - I use ZLauncher - it'll save you lots of memory, because this will take a bite out of your memory.

ZLauncher handles multiple creator IDs, which means you can move unrelated apps/files into the ZLauncher applications folder and it'll copy everything to main memory and back to the card upon application termination. That saves precious memory.

In this situation, install the JAVA application first and do the basic configuration. Then install the Java based application you want to run and then play with it. After play time, with ZLauncher, MOVE the JAVA application and the Java based application to the same ZLauncher application folder - you just gotta move the Java based application first in order to create the launch short cut within the device's main memory by moving the java based application first. After that, move all of the JAVA application files to the java based application folder on the card and that is it!

When the Java based application is launched, the Java based application and JAVA itself are all copied to main memory, the Java based application is launched and life is good. Upon program termination, all of that stuff is then moved back to the card.

THanks for the suggestions. I need to find a browser that supports JavaScript 1.0 and CSS, Cascading Style Sheets, not the JAVA applications that Benjie mentions. I did try XIINO but that didn't seem to work either. I did get further with XIINO than with Blazer but it wasn't far enough. THe odd thing is that other Realtors using the Treo 650 on a carrier other than Cingular can access the website that I am having trouble with. Very frustrating! Any other ideas? Other than switching carriers of course.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Would you consider posting the address of the website? Ben

    Benjie,
I'm having the same problem trying to view video cameras at my home through a DVR connected to my home network. The DVR is designed to work with internet explorer and uses a java app. It works fine on all desk tops and lap tops that I've tried but I can't get it to work with my 700p. To view the cameras remotely you don't need any special software on the viewing side so there is no java app. to install on the 700p. I would appreciate any help.

Off the wall, would it work via a streaming system? Ben
