Default Keypad does not work

I am sorry for posting this again but I did not get responses before.

My keypad on my treo does not work sometimes. It has happened on and off the last week and I am not sure why it is happening. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone know what I should do?

Should I try a hard reset? Doing that makes me nervous and I am not sure if it will help but that's where I am now.

Please ANY advice would be great.

Thanks

joe

Not to sound too simplistic, but it's either a software (system) problem or a hardware (keypad) problem.

To address the former, you can indeed hard reset. I'd first get a backup utility (BackupBuddy, RescoBackup, etc.) and then there's nothing to be nervous about. Backup first, hard reset, then restore from backup.

To address the latter, people have had success taking apart the Treo and cleaning the keyboard contacts, but you'd void any warrantee. If it's still in the warrantee period and a hard reset doesn't help, I'd go to the vendor and ask for a repair or replacement.

Rohit
I had the same issue with mine- you need a new keypad. It's not dirty, its just broken- search around on the net, and you will see that its a fairly common issue. To open up the case, you will need a t6 torx screwdriver also (about $3, available at any decent hardware store, though NOT my local Radio Shack). The keypad cost me about $11 off ebay, you want the ugly pcb thing, not the actual keys- here is an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/PalmOne-Treo-650...QQcmdZViewItem

It might be a bit scary for someone who is not comfortable with electronics, but it only took me about 5 minutes total. Note: if you try this and the screen stops working, just readjust the screen ribbon, you haven't broke it! Search on the net, there is a good tutorial with lots of pictures out there.
