Language Change on Treo !?
Hello! I bought yesterday an new Treo650, got it for an good price including the garantie! So it means it is new and unused, but i think the reason why it was quiet cheap, that the Box and the Manual and the software is in english (what is very good and what i wanted) but the Phone itself is with german language (the phone is not brandet it is free), so what i want to ask, is it possible to play the hole software (systemsoftware) onto the phone (like i did this 1 year ago with my sony-ericson in english version !? I guess it must be somehow possible, and then can someone please explain me step by step how to do this and where to get the Systemsoftware (downloading or buying)!?

What language does the disk display on the PC screen when you insert it into your computer and run it?
Did you install the Palm Desktop and if so, what language is that in?
As that article indicates, your desktop software must be in the same language as the device. If you do as they suggest, perform a Hard Reset to see if other languages are available, you will erase all of your data. If you have been syncing, your Desktop must be in the same language to successfuly sync.
If you find that you can change languages, I am not sure how you get back the data you may have backed up in the other language. If English is not offered, at least you can restore what you had, but that won't solve the issue of setting up in English though.

Like i wrote in the beginning the original Treo650 Sellingbox is complete english, also the manual and the CD is also english! When i installed the cd an my computer it installed in english so the Palmdesctop and quickinstaller is english (like my workingsystem on my computer), i don't know why the Palm what was in the packige is german!? Perhaps you are right and the hole Palmbundle was original english and someone bought a big bunch selling it now here in germany (offcourse the Handy at least must be then english otherwise nobody will by it). So when you say that it will be no problem to make an hardreset (by the way because it is new i don't have any data on, even i have not maked yet an phonecall on it, the only thing i tried to make an sync and all the categories where gone, perhaps because of the english and german mixture), i will do this and come later back to you !

Hello alltogether! I found the way to change the language from german to english it is really tricky and can only be done with two Persons, you have to perform an full "HARDRESET" the idear came from stevetaz (thanks for this). I looked under the Palmone side to find some info about the "HARDRESET" and i found this:
Method Two (Tungsten T5; Treo 650)
1. Read through these instructions before attempting the reset. We made this method of zero out reset extremely awkward to perform, so that it would not happen by accident. You may need the help of a dextrous friend if you find it too difficult to do by yourself.
2. Connect your device to its HotSync cable or cradle. The HotSync cable does not need to be connected to your PC, and it does not need to be connected to power.
3. Press and hold the Power button and UP on the 5-way navigator.
4. While continuing to hold Power and UP, press and hold the HotSync button on the HotSync cable or cradle. As you press HotSync, make sure your other finger doesn't slide to LEFT or RIGHT on the 5-way navigator; it needs to be exactly on UP during the entire process. Although you are pressing the HotSync button, a HotSync operation should not begin.
5. While continuing to hold Power, UP and HotSync, press and release the RESET button on the back panel of your device (where's the reset hole?). This is very difficult to do with only one person; you may wish to hold the stylus in your mouth and use your hands to press Power, UP and HotSync.
6. Release Power, UP and HotSync.
7. If you did this reset correctly, the screen of your device will go blank, and you will not be able to turn it on. The charging LED will not light up, even if it's connected to power. It will appear to be "dead." (any other activity - such as the Palm OS logo or a rainbow-colored Boot Log screen appearing - means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again)
8. Your device will appear "dead" for several minutes (up to 10 minutes). During this time, your device's internal memory is being reformatted. If your device doesn't appear "dead" for several minutes with the screen completely blank, the zero out reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
9. After several minutes, your device will "wake up" and the Palm and Palm Powered logos will appear as if you had performed a hard reset. Eventually, you'll be taken to a series of screens to calibrate the touchscreen and set date & time.
After two try's it worked out and the Treo650 started new with the first screen where i have the possibility to change to different languages. After the restart the Treo650 was changed fully to english, so that now after an synchrotest also there is no incompatibility problem with the datas or the catagories anymore!
I hope that this thread will help others also in some cases to change the device-language.

Glad you got it up and running!!!
Once again, welcome to ET. I am sure you be able to get the help you need. I am certainly no expert, but I like to share what I have learned and much of that has been due to the patience of a bunch of good Treo owners on these boards!!!
