Looking at 650
I am looking at getting a Treo 650 and I was wondering if anyone had any advise, I also have the option of getting a 700 through alltel service.
I am mainly going to be using my phone to receive e-mail and keeping up with my forums while I am on extended travel (in the US). Is this a good choice or is there a better choice out there.
Thank you for any advise.

You might check with your on line forums if they will work well with palm or if they work better with windows based treos. I would go with the newest hardware out there unless there is a large price difference.

Rumor has it that the 700p will no longer be available thru Verizon and Sprint in a couple of months. Rumor has it that another Palm OS device may be on the horizon, slimmer, no antenna. Rumor has it...

Well, the CDMA 680 still has yet to make an appearance...

I just went from a Palm based Samsung i300 with Sprint to a Cingular Palm Treo 650. I got an excellent deal on a refurbished phone that seemed to be brand new and came with all the accessories of a new unit. One advantage the 650 has is that both CDMA and GSM units are available in that model number. The bad news, as the newer models have rolled out, its harder to find the 650's in retail outlets for service providers. With the newer models you do have added ram, in some models a better camera, Bluetooth 2.0, higher data speeds, and choices between PalmOS and Windows Mobile operating systems, all depending on the provider you settle on. So far I havent run into anything in the 650 that made me wish I'd paid more for a 'newer' model, although the differences are there. Its more a matter of are the differences worth the cost increase. I would recommend spending time in a few phone stores just playing with the different models to see which one sparks your interest the most. In your case of using it for data purposes as the main objective, you may want to look at some of the newer models just to get increased data speeds, thus reducing the minutes you use for transmitting and recieving.

I think (might be wrong) that the bluetooth on the newer models still need 3rd party stuff to play music via bluetooth headsets.

At this point in the game, I am waiting. I was considering going with a Treo 7000wx and put that off once Marc Blank went over to Palm. As I mentioned above, the 700p is about to be dropped as an available device and its replacement may be a device worth some looking at.

also looking at Treo 650
I, too, am looking at the Treo 650, Verizon sevice. Just started today, so I know very little, other than that I want to buy a recon'd unit and that my needs are pretty simple.
Biggest question, willit be Mac compatible? I think so, because my husband has a Palm Lifedrive and it is. Please tellme if I am misguided on this!
What are the drawbacks, limitations, etc that you all have discovered so far?
Thanks for any info!

MissingSync is required for Mac syncing, I think - my wife is not here at this time and I am not a Mac user myself. www.markspace.com and http://www.markspace.com/synctogether.php
