| Microsoft Word Hello, I am new here and I just bought a Treo 650 and am trying to figure out how to open an email attachment that is in Microsoft Word, assuming this is even a possibility. The attachment shows up in my docstogo screen, but when I click on it I get the message, "The application to open this type of document could not be found! Am i just out of luck, or is there a way to view documents that are in Word. Many thanks in advance and sorry if this information is posted elsewhere. |

| Just curious if you have tried sending your word document through Docstogo from the your desktop and then done a hotsync. Just guessing that its a format issue.

Is DocsToGo (which Stillrockin mentioned) correctly installed on your Treo? It should have been on the CD you used to set up your Treo on your desktop.
I can't speak specifically to the way VersaMail works (I use Agendus) but, if it's anything like Agendus, maybe it should have come up with something like "there's an app on your device that can open this, do you want to accept it into Documents". Based on that, I'm thinking DocsToGo may not be set up correctly.

But he did say that he sees it in Docs to go on the Treo. Made me think its something from the Docstogo desktop sync . . . . . .

| First, thanks for the support.
Second, I think I figured this out--I actually purchased Chattermail yesterday because i was trying to get email from my work account (they relay messages for whatever reason, I assume it is security) using Versamail -- forwarding from my sprintpcs account -- and not only was I failing miserably, but i was actually getting emails from technical support personnel at Federal Courts (where I receive automatically generated notices of filings) indicating that I needed to turn relay off because it was sending bounced emails back to them. Not pretty. Moreover, I wasn't receiving any of my work email. So, I switched to Chattermail, or whatever the package was that gave me use of "push" technology and an emailtreo email address, and I am now good to go with the work email. As far as the document problem, the issue was, as one of you suspected, that I hadn't downloaded the additional docs2go software from the cd -- I know, i am an idiot. Anyway, now I have it working just fine. I wanted to say though that I really appreciated the support, and I am sure i will need more sooner than later. Many thanks. |

| jk47, a couple of things:
I love Chatter! Great app! its my preferred method of reading email! This forum is a great resource for Treo info! Chris has put up a great FAQ at the top! Lots of wonderful info there! If you don't see it addressed, try a search here, and if still no dice, post up!!!!! Most here are very friendly and always willing to help! I have taken much more than I have given back!
Welcome to the ET forums!!!

| Chattermail and Low Memory Another question that I can't seem to find an answer to--maybe because it is totally obvious. I have a 1gb Scandisk Secure Digital Card in the Treo and for some reason it doesn't seem that anything is backed up on the card. By way of example...I have Chattermail (see above) and in the inbox it says low memory and i am having trouble deleting the emails out of the inbox. I went to "Select All" and "Delete", and finally "expunge." The messages are still there, although in faint format, and it still says low memory. Is there something i need to do in iorder to get the deleted emails out of there and how do I use the memory on the card? Many thanks. |

Many thanks. | I don't use Chatter but is it possible that, even though you delete an email, it's not truly deleted until you "purge" or "expunge", then perform a sync or send/receive again? That's how it works with Agendus. Also, if you've downloaded any large attachments to your Treo, that can eat up RAM space in a hurry.
As for device memory, it is limited on the Treo. How many apps do you have installed and have you considered running any of them from the card? You can move many apps using some sort of file manager, like FileZ (freeware). If you put them into the Palm folder on your card, a shortcut will appear on your launcher window so you can still easily launch the app. Also, do you have many pictures or songs? In my opinion, all media (photos, music, etc.) should be on the card. You'll want to keep an eye on your available memory. It's too easy to get caught up installing or trying apps, only to realize you have no memory left.

I am not really sure what to do about this one -- all I know is that the Treo itself is not frozen. I am only wondering if the email app has low memory, or if it is the Treo. Is there a way to figure out how much free space is on the Treo?
I haven't really installed that many apps--at least i don't think it is that many and I have no pictures and no songs. I haven't installed anyhing to the card, but i will try your recommendation using FileZ. Is FileZ easy to figure out with respect to transferring applications to the card? Many thanks. |
