    Default Missing Sync and Contacts

Okay, so I love Missing Sync, up until last night when all of a sudden all of my contacts on my phone go missing after a sync. My Mac Address Book is still intact with all of my contacts, but for some reason Missing Sync doesn't sync them. I've reinstalled Missing Sync twice now and it still does the same thing. The only contacts that are still on the Treo are the three most recent contacts.

    Please Help!!!

Not sure why it suddenly happened when everything was fine before. I recommend:

    1. Be sure your Mac has an active internet connection.
    2. Open System Preferences, click on .Mac (under Internet & Network), click the Sync tab, and make sure Bokmarks, Calendars, and Contacts are checked.
    3. Open Missing Sync and set the Contacts, Events, and Tasks conduits to Overwrite handheld with desktop data.
    4. HotSync. Please post your results. If it doesn't work, I have another couple of ideas.

P.S. I strongly advise you to purchase a backup util for your Treo. Restoring your contacts would be as easy as a few taps of the stylus.

Results are still the same. I still have on the Treo only the three most recent contacts. Interestingly, two of them are contacts I put in on the Treo and the third is one that I put in on the Mac.

PS. What program would you suggest?

    OK. Try this:
    1. First, backup your Address Book & iCal data. Launch each app and go to File > Back up... and save the backup file to the desktop. Now your Mac data is restorable if lost.
    2. Go to .Mac System Prefs like before, click the Advanced tab and then the Reset Sync Data... button. BE SURE TO SET THE DIRECTION SO THAT YOUR MAC REPLACES .MAC, NOT VICE VERSA.
    3. Go back to the Sync tab and click the Sync Now button.
    4. Launch Missing Sync and uncheck all Missing Sync conduits except Contacts, Events, and Tasks. You may want to save this as a separate sync profile.
    5. Select the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, and hold down the option key while you click the Settings... button. As before, make sure the conduit is set to Overwrite handheld with desktop data.
    6. Click the Advanced Options... button, and then the Unregister Sync Client button. Click OK.
    7. Repeat steps 4 & 5 with Mark/Space Events and Mark/Space Tasks.
    8. HotSync. If you're prompted with a dialog opting you to erase the handheld data before syncing, do so.

Please post your results. I may have another idea. Good luck!

Okay, so I got the dialogues about allowing Missing Sync to sync with my address book, ical and to do's, and it finished the hotsync without a problem. But my problem remains. I still only have those three contacts on my treo.

Alright, this is getting odd. The above steps made sure your .Mac data matches your computer's (you may want to login to .Mac online and confirm this) and resetting sync history treats the next HotSync as your first.

This may be dumb, but open Missing Sync and go to the pulldown Handhelds icon at the top right. Be sure the listed and active handheld name matches your Treo's hotsync name.

The only other thing I can think of is to hard reset your Treo and start fresh. If you try this nuclear approach, also delete the handheld from Missing Sync's list. You may want to appeal to Mark/Space tech support (good, but e-mail only) before you zap your Treo.

After many trials, I discovered that the problem didn't even lie with Missing Sync. It was actually Address Book that was messing up. When I went online to check the .Mac data, it showed only those three contacts I had before. After some trials, I discovered that if I add new people to my address book, those went up, but not anyone else. So I set to duplicate every entry manually and as I was doing that, Address Book and Sync Services popped up a dialog that said that they noticed some inconsistencies and would I like for them to fix it. I clicked yes, and the problem was solved. All contacts back in my phone.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I use windows so I'm a little curious....To sync you have to go to a mac site on line to sync. The sync doesn't connect directly with the apple to the treo??

At least I suggested something that was helpful!

    Glad it's all straightened out.

What Windows do you mean? If your computer uses Windows, this thread isn't really relevant for you. If your Treo uses Windows, MarkSpace does have Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, but if you don't have a .Mac account then byxba's issue doesn't affect you.

    Cheers.
