more info?
I am new to the palm treo 650, I have tons of questions, is there a website I can go to learn how to run applications, such as getting mp3 to work.
Another question I have is once I have an mp3 application on my treo do you need special head phones, or will the headset that came with the phone work? Does bluetooth work as the head phones? :embarassed:

1) you can look in the wiki or in the FAQ on ET for more info on running apps.
But what speficially would you like to know about running apps?
To get mp3s to work you will have to first make sure that they don't have a DRM on them and that they are in an mp3 format. Using a card reader is the easiest way to install the mp3s. But you can install them without a card reader. You just have to get an app like card export and etc. Which will allow you to use your treo as a card reader. Then just click and drag your mp3 files to your sd card. Then go to ptunes on your device and select open then find your music.
2) The headsets that cae with it will work. Any headset will work as long as you have a 2.5m to 3.5mm adapter or the headsets have a 2.5mm headset jack already on the headphones.
3) I don't understand quite what your asking?
BT headsets can work and BT headphones can work as well.
Headsets: is the single ear piece headset that only allow you to talk to people on the pphone wirelessly.
Headphones are like regular stereo headphones except that they are wireless and some can answer call and talk to people on the phone.
Hope that helps?

The treos version of bluetooth is only for the phone not stereo music. I do remember someone was testing or may have a bluetooth headset that works with the 650.
You can sync music to your treo as long is it is in a format real player will play. Music takes up a lot of roo so most here have got memory cards for additional room.
As for a web site this is a good one to search and palm.com has treo information. Search here and you will find freeware and other apps.
added this link for you.

thanks
Thank you for the information.
How do I download apps to my palm?
As far as the sd cards for the Treo is there a sd drive that you hook to your home computer to download music from computer to the sd for your palm?
I was searching last night and read about an application that has the possibility of using the bluetooth headset to listen to music it is called softick audio gateway, the information said there are quite alot of kinks to it. Have your heard of this? If so is it good?
Lastly so the headset can work to listen to music? Or do you still need to get special headphones, or an adapter for the headsets that came with it. I am unclear about that.
Thanks for responding,
palmjam

To download apps you first have to make sure that the file is a .PRC fiel or .PDB file. Next you need palm desktop installed on your computer to install the apps. Or you can use a card reader which might be built in on your computer. If not you can get a usb card reader for like 2 dollars. that will help you install the apps. If you don't have palm desktop then go to their website. palm.com then go to support and you can download the desktop from there.
Sites that I recommend- the software store here on ET, freeware-palm.com and handango.com.
Here is a pervious post that helped a guy install a game on to his device. Games, any app are all installed the same way.
"
k first game I'll walk you through.
Game is Naplam Racing.
1) go to this url. (warning there are pop ups):http://www.freewarepalm.com/games/napalmracing.shtml
2) Look under the Download: you'll see a zip file click to download it. (Download is located under requirements at the top of the page).
Once the zip file comes up you can extract it to your HD or just install from the zip.
3) Look in folder "Color" You'll see NaplamRacing.prc. The ".prc" is the main file you need. (Only apps that can be installed on Palm devices are .prc or .pdb. No other format is supported by Palm. So if you are trying to install games that are for i.e. Razor phone. They won't work due to formatting and OS issues.)
Double click "Naplamracing.prc". (You should have Palm desktop installed, it is required) Next Quick Install should be launch with the app Located under the "Handheld". If you want to install it on your SD card then drag the app to the "Expansion Card" section.
4) Go back to your .zip file ( that you should not close until you have installed the game to your device.) double click again on "NReditor.prc". Do the same as with "Naplamracing.prc".
5) Next go to the folder tracks double click any of the pdb files. They should automatically be seen on your Quick Install screen just like the prc files. (If wanting to have the main app located on your SD card then you need to install the .pdb file to the handhelds internal memory.)
Next Hotsync.
Go to your device and look on home screen with "ALL" apps showing and the program should be there. ( If it is not then go to your SD card by clicking the "home" button enough times till you see the name of your sd card). Once you see the app you'll see to the NReditor is where you can create your one race tracks but make sure that the editor is running in safe mode. To activate that just hit the app with your stylus and then once the app is launched in the top right corner of the screen make sure there is a check in the "safe mode" if there isn't clcik the box and that will activate safe mode for the editor. This is needed or the app will crash. Then you can create your own tracks now if your want.
6) Now if you want to Play the game click Naplamracing with your stylus and then (if a cscreen pops up saying no tracks foudn then go to NReditor and create a track.) setup your game and then race.
If you can't download the gaem security to high. Soo then go home install palm desktop and then do teh same proceedures and hotsync your device to your home pc. So yes you can do work and home PC databases. I won't hurt anything just make sure that both are desktops are kept up to data.
Also sounds like your are trying to download games that are built for windows mobile or other regualr cell phones. So your need to use these sites. palmgear.com, handango.com, and the software store here to download games. Also you can click on the download app on yor device and download games over your data connection.
I think you had your formats screwed up the treo isn't like the regualr cell phones out there it is a whole different phone, and OS. Compared to regular cell phones. Next time I recommend visiting palm.com/support for more info on installing apps. Also the next time when installing apps make sure that the fiel ends with ".prc" or ".pdb". Those are the only compatiable formats for palm os.
Hope that helps? "
Also another way of getting apps is by going to the software stores on your treo and downloading the apps over teh air onto your phone.
2) the SD card needs to be in a card reader or (if using realplayer or have some 3rd party app to install mp3s) have the card in your treo and open realplyer and sync the music that way?
What are you using on your device to sync music to? e.g. Realplayer, ptunes, mocean and etc?
Also what music service are you using? i.e. itunes, realplayer, and etc?
3) yes it is the only option right now to listen to music using BT headphones. It works very well.
Yes the headset that came in the box with the device can work.
If you are going to use ipod headphones you will need to get a 2.5mm adapter to a 3.5mm adapter.
Hope that clears things up and helps.

thanks again
I have not sync'd any music yet.
I am in the stone age  , I am not using any music service. I just wanted to download some of the collection of cd's that I do have and some info cd's to listen to while driving or meditating.
Can you just load a cd on your computer and somehow put it on the treo 650?
This may sound primitive, I am learning.
Do I need to use realplayer, ptunes, mocean, or another application to sync the cd's music into a file that can be read by palm treo?
I do not understand that process.
Thanks for taking the time to explain this so far.

paljam do you have the manual with your treo? Take a moment and it will help greatly.
With your phone you should have gotton a disc to install on your pc to sync with your treo. Once installed you can open palm quick install and drag your music intl the program. Then you sync your treo (with suppled cable) to your pc. Look through your apps and find real player and you can play your music. If you are going to download alot of music get a sd card (1or 2 gigs)
