    Default Motorola Bluetooth HF 820

I hope someone can enlighten me. I just purchased this unit and love it. As you know, the unit turns off after a certain # of minutes to conserve power when not plugged in, and is supposed to stay "on" as long as your phone is within range. Not so in my case. The unit shuts off after 5 minutes even though the phone is still in range.

Case in point. I called someone as I headed out this am and left a message. When I reached my destination a half hour later, I found a voice mail from the person I called: ringer was low and I didn't hear it. The call did not ring through or "wake" the unit up.

At first I thought it was the unit, but I think it might be the Treo. Does it have anything to do with the Treo "auto's off" after X minutes of non use? I would imagine that since calls still come through when the Treo shuts down to conserver power that bluetooth is still active, but maybe not.

    Any thoughts? TIA.

I don't think this is an issue with your headset, although I don't have any personal experience with it. The straight-to-voicemail phenomenon occasionally happens to me too even without a headset, and has happened to my wife on her Mot RAZR. It's a glitch in your wireless carrier connecting to your phone.

When your Treo "auto offs" it sleeps but doesn't actually turn itself off. Specifically, the radio remains on and able to receive unless you either manually turn it off (hold down the red power button) or have a 3rd party utility than manages the radio's power status. Same with Bluetooth.

K, thanks for the response but I am not having a glitch w/the voicemail. I've tested this twice today and after it goes into battery save mode, the Motorola unit does not pick up. It's baffling b/c I've paired the devices and bluetooth is "on" on my Treo. I'm going to call the manufacturer since it does not appear that anyone on the forum is experiencing this issue.

Interesting. As I said, I have no experience with Mot BT devices (I didn't realize the HF820 isn't a headset). Do you have any BT utilities running in the background? Double check that the HF820 is a trusted device. Did Mot have anything helpful?

Apparently, there is nothing wrong with my unit. I spoke to a tech at the company, and the device is not supposed to wake up after it goes into power saving mode. Instead, when a call comes in on your phone, the unit has to be reactivated by pressing the appropriate button. The manual is misleading b/c implies that it is always on as long as the phone is w/in range.

Of course if anyone out there who has the unit knows differently, please indicate so.
