Default Move apps to SD card--w/out using other programs

Why would anyone want to use a 3rd party application to move apps to an SD card? If you ask me it's a bit counter productive--install a program in memory so you can free up some memory--well I have come up with another solution. Sure I know that programs like zlauncher and linkstart don't take up a whole lot of space but I don't like to waste room on my screen (or in my memory) for something I don't need. This may not be the best way, but it works. Here we go...

1. Browse the contents of your palmone backup folder (typically c:\program files\palmone\%username%\backup\)

2. Copy the appropriate PRC file(s) into another directory (don't delete them--copy them).

3. Delete the app from your Treo 650 and resync.

4. Open up the "palmone quick install" and drag the prc file(s) you copied in step 2 into the expansion card section.

5. Sync again and your done.

A couple things to keep in mind about this procedure:

1. Items on your SD card are not synced to your computer during a hotsync (as far as I know). I keep a copy of anything on my card in a different backup folder.

2. Programs will create and store their database files in your phone's RAM (these files will be backed up during hotsync).

Enjoy!

Gene

I do not move stuff back and forth much but I do use filez.

I have got a couple of corrupt data bases that I needed to delete then reset to get versamail working. I don't think you could do that without a program unless you do a hard reset.

You should be able to delete the database files from the backup folder on your computer and then set the hotsync option for versamail to have the computer overwrite the device. I haven't tried that but it seems logical enough.

Yeah you definately need to have your PC to do it my way. You bring up a good point, being on the road a lot makes having 3rd party software for this type of stuff a necessity.
