Default Muting network alarm

Greetings ... another question regarding my new Treo. Whenever it shifts in and out of the digital network, an alarm noise is sounded. Is there a way I can mute or turn off this alarm without impacting the actual ringer? I cannot find where to do it in the emenu, and I tried search the forums here without success. Thanks for any help provided.

Joe

With the phone displayed (normal background), hit your menu key, go to options, then sound preferences. high light tones and you will find (bottom) service tones. Under preferences volume you can mute alert tones but that might turn off more than you want to. Let us know if this works for you.

Plunker,
Thanks for the help! Looks like it worked (so far). Now I need to try and figure out other things on this device like using MP3 files for ringtones, etc. Do you know if the picture id is suppose to show up when you call someone (and you have a picture assigned)? My pics don't, and I can't figure it out ... yet.

Thanks again for your help,

Joe

My pics don't show up on outgoing calls either. I have several set up for incoming calls, and I use ringo pro for my MP 3 ringtones. mring is very popular also. To assign MP-3 ringtones, you will have to install an app for that. The Treo doesn't support MP-3 ringtones out of the box . . .

If you want to use your mp3's without spending money on a 3rd-party app, it can be done.

Download the free Wavepad, which will let you edit your mp3's. You'll need to crop your song to roughly 30 seconds. Pick your own start and end point within the song. Save it as a .wav file, deciding what quality you can live with as a ringtone. Remember, this will be a fairly large file. Depending on the quality you save as, anywhere from say 500kb to 1.5mb. So go with the minimum quality you can live with, as the Treo's memory is at a premium. Now I tried several ways to get this file on the Treo and finally ended up mailing it to myself, like others have done, downloading the file from within my mail app on the Treo and saving to the device. It automatically gets recognized and added to the "Tones" library and you can select it from withiin the "Tones" part of "Prefs".

Or you can visit 3gforfree from the Treo's browser. They have Sprint-specific (.qcp) ringtones.

I actually just started using pictures yesterday but I only get them on incoming calls, too.

In addition to this, I just found that the Ringo free trial will allow you to "import tones" from an SD card into your tones library on the Treo650. This allows you to remove your SD card and still have the mp3 as your ringtone.
  1. Start on Ringo's main page.
  2. Push the options menu button on your phone.
  3. Select tones --> import tones.
  4. Find the mp3 you want to import as a tone and select it.
  5. Hit OK and then a copy of the mp3 will be placed into your tones library.
