Check your preferences and check to see the Microphone is set to ON.
(press Menu button while in the application to access preferences).

yep, it's on. do you think it's faulty?

yep, it's on. do you think it's faulty?
It might be. I just tried recording while the phone is on Vibrate (my other guess), but it works fine.
