Need Help My new $400 paperweight

I've had my new Verizon Treo 650 for about a week and it has performed ok. I've worked through the issues with Versamail (upgraded to the latest version) and now can send/receive e-mail through my corporate exchange server without any problems. I have a 512MB SD card installed that is Treo approved and it seems to work fine. I upgraded to Palm OS version 1.04 without any hitches.

    Here's what I'm experiencing:

I get an occassional reboot/OS crash when I've been using SMS for extended periods. It seems the longer I text back and forth this increases the chances of a reboot.

When I suddenly stop receiving text messages in the middle of my "conversation", if I turn the phone off and back on again I will receive several new messages almost immediately. I have full signal strength by the way.

Occassional complaints when I use the speakerphone of my voice breaking up. If I turn the speaker off and back on this problem goes away and the other party says they can now hear me fine.

    Questions:

Any suggestions for these problems other than calling Verizon and having them send me a used phone. I don't buy into the "refurbished" bullsh*t.

Can you turn this thing completely off? I know how to turn off the phone but would like to turn of the PDA functionality as well. Haven't figured that part out yet.

Hey I dont think this is a Treo problem. I have Verizon as well. It seems if you text a lot. (which I do 2000+) a month. they seem to get crossed and "stuck" then when you turn the phone on like a billion come in. This happend to my Treo a few times and about 100 times when I had my V710 flip phone. So dont worry about your treo being messed up its just V. As far as it Rebooting when texting I havent had that problem. Mine reboots every now and then when doing other things. Try doing a soft reset on it. I had to do that yesterday. For a while yesterday when I went to call someone the screen would turn all white for about 15 sec then start dialing. I then shut down my Verichat and did a soft reset and that solved that.

I cant help you with the Versamail. I only have gmail and aol set up. not sure how to set up outlook yet.

    Hey Spbmpnva:

Thanks for the info. I feel a little better. I actually did a hard reset and fresh install. Everything is working fine for the moment.

Can you recommend a viewer for media files & a chat applet?

    Thanks!

I just use the viewer that is on the phone. I havent had a chance to search for anything else. As for the chat applet. IMO I think Verichat is the greatest. Its only about $12 I think but is well worth is. Good luck

you dont have any problems with verichat? I was using the latest version of it, and my treo resetted sporadically with it, i finally removed it monday and haven't had one reset as of yet. Im currently looking for another IM program now, I tried IM+, I installed it and as soon as I tried to chat with someone, it resetted. so I uninstalled it.

    Default verichat resets

after waiting for many days PALM ONE wrote back.

i had written PALM ONE expressing problems with alot of resets and they advise me to do a hard reset re install the programs in the order the third party advise us to.

PALM ONE states that with most third party programs there is a read me file that we should read first, the read me file within the program list the programs that are given and usually the list is the order in which they should be installed.

This helped in my resets. i was getting alot with lightwav, verichat, kinoma and ptunes but after following this simple advised it helped.

    Hope it helps

Yea I tried the hard reset a month ago, it didn't help in this case, as soon I installed verichat the resets came back, for 3 days straight since I deleted verichat. This morning I got brave and reinstalled verichat, this time I disabled the sms "always on" feature... 4hrs and no resets...

Update: So much for my verichat, It started restarting my device again...About 15 minutes of activating the program and letting it run in the background, it causes my device to just reset. I guess I will stick to web based messenger until one of these IM programs makes a stable pruduct.
