My Treo 650 got very hot

I carry my treo in one of those side carriers and last night it got very hot and the backlight for the screen quit working. I am wondering was I leaning on it just right to make it try to do something over and over.
Any thoughts? I have the keyguard set for immediate upon power of and I try to make sure it's off before it goes in the carrier.

Were you also using the device for an extended period of time? An "old" battery or one going bad will also heat up.
