Default My treo Locks up!

Ok,

This is my first time posting this forum. I haven't tried calling Customer care or chatting with a online tech guy because its 12 15 AM ( Just got out of work ). My Girlfriend wanted a treo 650 for christmas and thats what she's getting. One problem--

I purchased the phone off of eBay Brand new never used... Just unlocked for any SIM CARD Provider ( cingular in this case ) but the Phone is branded "Cingular" .. So.. simplest terms, The phone is branded Cingular but is unlocked. I got out of work and figured I should pop it out to test it just in case anything is damaged. Popped in my sim card..... Phone works like a CHARM!!!!!!!!!!

EXCEPT FOR WHEN IT AUTO SHUTS OFF!!! Once it idles out- I can only turn it back on if I reset it. I leave it on the charger and the charging light stays on even after i Unplug it. When the Green light is blinking ( for a treo 650 by antenna ) It seems as if the phone is in good shape Till I go to Un idle the thing- This is where it freezes.. It doesn't even turn back on but the green light continues blinking.

This is what I've done:

Soft reset
Medium reset
Hard reset

I have to reset the phone in order for it to Start back up. I am hoping I have an easy fix solution from any of you treo Veterans.

Help me out !!!! a quick response with knowledge mixed in would be appreciated! At this moment- My gf doesnt know shes getting a deffective treo :-( hopefully its an easy fix.

P.S. The phone it self has not been formatted or sync'd in any way at all. Its fresh out of its box-- this should help

I just read another thread where a zero out reset got his back up and running where the other resets would not.

I am not sure if you are trying to use a cingular phone on another carrier or the cingular phone on the cingular system. I don't know how the locled and unlocked phones work but if you clarify what phone with what system someone here will have an answer for you. (Lots of Faith here)

with cingular the green ligght blinks when you are in service area and is red when charging solid green when hooked up to power and fully charged. There are programs or applets that will turn that feature off. I think its called LEDoff its mentioned in other threads on the 65p forum here at ET Have you tried dailing in the phone app #*377 and hit dial That should give you an idea as to what may have caused the need for a reset.

Thanks for your replies. To Clarify a bit! sorry if i scrambled around but i need a fix it now solution when she opens it. lol. Anyway

The phone is Branded Cingular but is Unlocked for all sim card networks. I am using the Unlocked Cingular treo on the cingular network. I don't know what you mean by what "system" but I can tell you that before I wrapped it, the version that was being ran was 1b.17 .. The most most recent version of firmware or whatever you want to call it.

Anyway, What basically happens... is- The phone works great. When it idles... it, I guess, Locks up. So when I go to press the power button to un idle it- It doesnt respond... Therefore leading me to believe that the phone is locking up. Its real strange because the light indicator is stating that its getting service or whatever but no response from the phone when I try and un idle it... Its stupid because it locks up most of the time... Lets say if i want to un idle it 10 times... it will probably lock up on the 3rd time or maybe 5th time... You get the point. THe lock up on the phone is inconsistant when the phone Idles.

What is this Zero out reset you speak of?!

Cingular models have been pretty tricky because of how unreliable they tend to be. I heard that it was because of a batch of treos they made that were really poorly manufactured, so they do have that reputation.

The zero out reset may work... details are here: http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...j(887)#zeroout

It also sounds like it could be a firmware issue, too. I unlocked my treo about a year ago, and then I sold it because I switched my carrier, so I can't remember what type of firmware I had to put on the dang thing since it had been unlocked...

Your problem is probably different than my solution so I'd go with the zero reset.

I was getting upset with my treo not responding and having to hit the phone button repeatedly to wake her up. One of the guys here suggested to press and hold the phone button for a few seconds. This worked for me. I started using the locked key board and it seems you have to hold the button down longer than you did with the keyboard unlocked.

I have placed new software or more data and the treo was slow and a soft reset got it back to normal.

if you will go to the phone app and dial #*377 and then hit the dial button it will give you a code number or even tell you the app that caused a reset or crash. Did you try that?

My treo 650 was an ATT phone which was branded cingular and my sim card would not work I did the unlock thing and once that was done it worked just fine it has the cingular 1.17 firmware. If she continues to have problems you may need to get a hold ofg Cingular and work through it with them or get the seller to take it back or something. Its possible it may be a bad unit. Try the dial code thing and get back with us. We'll help if we can.
