n00b email setup questions

hello, my name is gary and my co-workers have recently purchased the treo 650 with the alltel provider. so far we got everything down but we cannot get the email to work. we consultated the instruction manual and tried the basic setup procedure. nothing has worked and i was browsing the internet for answers and came across this website and figured it will really help. so far the carrier is alltel and the email provider is Cox.net when trying to "get" mail the server will fail to connect. the message i recieve is:
"Unable to resolve name pop3.mail.cox.net. Check your DNS settings or enter the IP address for your mail server." i cannot retrieve the ip address and do not have a clue as to what i should do with the DNS settings. please help it will be greatly appreciated thank you.

Double check your cox server settings. The incoming should be the same as you used on your pc. The outgoing should be alltels outgoing server. Cox and altel should help you set this up. Silly question but....do you have a plan with altel that will let you check mail and go on the internet??

If Memory serves correct is should be "Pop.Central.cox.net & smtp.central.cox.net" thats what mine was i beleive. I can do anything i want on a laptop or A PC but this dang treo blows my mind i have had it 30 hours and i have a headache and I still can't send or receive mail, or any of the other nifty little service this thing provides!
