    Default Need Help: Memory Card

    Hi All,

I bought a Treo 650 last year and until now, i haven't taken full advantage of its capabilities so decided to buy a 2 gig memory card. I just want to ask you guys what memory card should i buy for my treo. I've read here that you guys use SD card; however, when i asked some store people if i could use an SD card for my treo, they say that i could only use an MMC (they told me that even DV-RS MMC would not work with my Treo).

Is it also true that larger memory card for my Treo would impede its performance?

Please help me guys as I am really confused. What memory card should I buy and if my Treo 650 could efficiently support a 2 gig memory card. Thanks

    Hi and welcome to ET!

I believe the Treo 650 supports both MMC and SD cards. However, I don't think MMC cards are made anymore. I can't imagine why those store people told you the Treo can only use MMC unless that is all they have in stock?????

I am using a 512 mb SanDisk SD and it has worked every time. The 650 can only recognize up to 2gb SD/MMC cards so anything larger is overkill. I also believe the newer high speed cards are not supported (they work, but not at the higher speed). The RS cards may not work as they are Reduced Size, but I am not sure.

I strongly urge you consider a card reader for $10-20 for transferring files between your PC and the card. That is the definitive method for speed and ease of transferring.

What card should you buy? Stay with the name brands and be careful about anything that seems like way too good of a deal. There are many counterfeit cards being sold out there, especially on auction sites. Search these boards for "Counterfeit SD Card" and you will see a few stories. Here is one:

I hope this helps and let us know how it goes,

Look around and you can find a card with a card reader fairly cheap at the discount stores or online. Readers will speed up your download times.

If you buy online check out the sellers store rtaing so you don't get burned.

Thanks for your replies. I now consider buying a 2 gig mini/micro sd and use an adapter so that i could also use the memory card in other cell phones.

I've seen several micro/mini SD with adapters enabling it to fit to the standard size. what i want to know is that are there adapters for micro sds to fit slots for mini sds? thanks again
